Finally Friday

It is snowing this morning, and so it is grey. Too dark for a photo of me sitting on my kitty condo in the sewing room watching over my domain.

Mom has chosen the view for the When When Contest, and it isn't the one you think.

It's this view, outside the front of the house.  I think Mom was very tricksy when she chose it, because those big piles of snow will take a long time to melt...  Oh well.  When When Watchers, get ready, but not too ready, because we have to get through February before the contest starts. And the snow has to still be here by then.

Heh.

White Wednesday

How much snow did we get yesterday? I dunno, but it was more than 18 inches and less 24.

This was lunchtime yesterday.  You can see how the wind was blowing the snow around.

This was dinnertime yesterday. See how the car on the right was almost totally buried?

Lookit the snow on the neighbor's oil tank.

In other words, we got a LOT.  We were furry lucky, we did not lose power.  Mom and I were comfy and cozy all day long. I napped and Mom watched the tennis and worked on her tippy-tappy lapbox. When I got tired of napping, I plopped myself next to Mom and got scritches. When I was done with scritches I went back to napping.

It ended up being a good day for both of us.

Blizzard Wednesday, updated!

We haven't had a lot of snow so far this winter, but today will be the day to change all that.

We live near Manchester, at the top of this map.

For my Aussie and Kiwi friends, 36 inches is over 91 cm. The weather guys think we will get between 18 to 25 inches (45 to 63 cm) before the storm is over on Wednesday.

The governor of our state has already declared a State of Emergency, which means if you are not "essential" you stay home. Schools everywhere have been cancelled for Tuesday AND Wednesday.

Snow is expected to fall at a rate of one to three inches AN HOUR, which Mom has never seen before. At that rate, the snowplow guys can't keep up. Not every snowstorm is a blizzard. According to Wikipedia (yes, I looked it up), "a blizzard is a severe snowstorm characterized by strong sustained winds of at least 56 km/h (35 mph) and lasting for a prolonged period of time – typically three hours or more." The biggest problem in a blizzard is that you can't see more than a quarter mile ahead of you (400 m), and it can get so bad it is called a "whiteout" which means you can't see anything. So it is unsafe to be on the road, and they want everybody to stay home.

Works for me.

Big problem though, is that those high winds can cause power outages. I do not want that to happen.

IF we have power, and IF we have innernets, I will post pictures of what it looks like outside as the storm progresses. Otherwise... well, let's not think of that.

this photo was taken Monday morning. It will be interesting to see how much snow there is on Tuesday....

Update Tuesday AM...
This is what it looks like outside the sewing studio this morning. It is snowing and the wind is blowing it around. It is hard to tell just how much snow we have so far, but it looks to be about six or seven inches (15 - 17 cm). The storm isn't done yet, and we will get more. We are warm and cozy, and Mom is watching the tennis in Oz while also keeping up with the local news.  Keep your paws and fingers crossed!

Millie Monday

Mom, just because this quilt has been shown in three big quilt shows all over the US of A, it doesn't mean it isn't mine to nap on whenever I want.

To all the When When Watchers, we have another big storm coming on Tuesday.  Stay tuned.

Not so Snowy Sunday

We didn't get a lot of snow during the day yesterday, only about four inches, but we did get a little bit more after the sun went down. We're supposed to get a lot more in a big storm coming on Tuesday.

I spent the day napping in my kitty condo. Mom cleaned the house.

Once again, have I told you lately how glad I am to be a cat?

Snowy Saturday

If you were worried we won't have any snow for the When When Contest, take a look at this graphic:

We are in the Blue area, and are expecting 8 or more inches of snow.  That's 20.32cm for my Aussie and Kiwi pals.

Mom has done all her errands. We are stocked up with foods. Mom has cleaned almost the whole house (she will finish the rest of it today.) We will watch the snow fall outside as we watch the tennis in Oz inside.  It will be a good day.

Don't worry about the When When Contest just yet. It usually doesn't begin until the end of February.

Family Friday

Mom is playing hooky from her day-hunting gig today to get some errands done. She has a busy week next week and will use the day to get caught up.

Mom has to get her stuff ready for the class she will teach at QT next week, and we will be watching the tennis in Oz. Yesterday our favorite guy, Roger Federer lost, so our viewing excitement is somewhat diminished. We will now be cheering for the "second wave" of young players: Stan, Gregor, Vasek, Milos and Kei.

We are both furry disappointed in our pals, the guys named Pat. Somebody decided to play fast and loose with the rules and that isn't fair. We don't understand it.

It's going to be a nice day today, but we will have some snow over the weekend. Are you a When When Watcher?

Me too!

O Happy Day!

Really, need I say more?

Almost Wordless Wednesday

Mom and I have been watching the tennis in Oz. Mom and I have also been watching Downton Abbey.

Tuxie Tuesday

Mom had to get up and go early early today because the vampires wanted her blood.

Have I mentioned lately how glad I am to be a cat?

Millie Monday

Yeah, this is me eating. It's all Mom could come up with. I've been napping on my cushion under the TV. Mom was doing stuff. So no interesting pictures.

She painted one side of the folding screen, she finished the hem on the bathroom window curtain. She baked some English Muffin Bread (and packed two loaves to send to Mr Karate & Rubylocks), and ordered a new handle for the coldbox, which broke off a few weeks ago.And she paid a couple of the Mr Bills. So was a pretty boring weekend.

Well, it was boring until my pals, the guys named Pat, beat the Colts to earn a trip to the Super Bowl.

*and if you can believe it, both Mom and I missed noting my 3,000th post, which happened about a week ago. This one is 3,008!

Easy Like Sunday

I am having a lovely nap. Mom has ordered some Nip seeds as well as some Cat Grass for me.

Heh.

Frustrated Friday

Mom is so excited about being able to plant a garden in the ground instead of pots, she has already ordered, and received seeds for it.

Yup, there's lots of Basil, some Nasty-turn-iums (or whatever), lots of stupid green leafy lettuce and other herb-y junk, but there's something missing. Can you figure out what it is?

Take a closer look.

Have you seen it yet? Or rather, do you know what is missing?

'Nip.

Yes my friends, my own Mom has forgotten to order some 'Nip for me. She -claims- she was thinking of what she could put outside, but we all know she was thinking of her own stomach, and not me.

Something might meet a toothy death, but Mom told me there was plenty of time to order me some 'Nip since she can't plant anything in the ground until after my birthday in April, which is 3 months away.

I'll be watching.

Thinking Thursday

By now you have probably heard that Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson have completed their free-climb ascent of the Dawn Wall on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. It was an amazing feat.

Mom has actually been to Yosemite, and seen El Cap. She says you stand in El Cap meadow, about a half a mile away from it, and you almost fall over backwards when you lean your head back to look at the top.

Mom's brother Mr Photographer has climbed "El Cap" over two dozen times so Mom and I already knew what was so special about the climb. We didn't need anybody to explain the terms "pitch," "crux," "belay," "jumar," or "portaledge." We know all about the difference between "nuts" and "bolts" and we actually know what "5.12c" means.

I am a Cat. I am an expert at climbing anything, but I salute Tommy and Kevin.  Congrats, guys!

Bird TV

So close,

yet so far.

It was practically a heat wave here yesterday. The temperature went ABOVE freezing for a while.  Of course, it will get colder again tomorrow, buy hey, that's January here in New Hampster.

Millie Monday

Mom lay down on the couch and covered herself with the red quilt. I thought she looked comfy.

Well, she did!

Easy Like Sunday

The weather warmed up, so Mom opened up the door to the sewing studio. Now it is very cozy and I have taken over the kitty condo in there.

As you can see we had a little bit of snow. The weather is supposed to be cold again this week, but typical of the weather we usually have in January.

Mom has been a bit tired lately, so we haven't blogged every day like we like to, but I don't want her to get sick, so I am happy she has been resting a bit.  The tennis has started again. Next week our attention will be in Melbourne and we will be watching the Australian Open. Of course, we shall also be following our pals, the guys named Pat, who won a crazy game against the Ravens last night.

Truthful Thursday

Yesterday Mom closed the door to her sewing studio because it was so cold*** in there.  I was mildly annoyed because that's where I like to sit and watch the world outside.  No worries. I just went into the office and sat on the kitty condo in there.

When Mom got home last night, she saw this.

Do you remember when Mom put the stuffed toy up there, wondering how long it would take for him to fall down?

Wonder no longer.

*** It is minus 7F outside this morning. That's -21.6C, and that's not including the wind chill. When it's that cold and very windy, it feels colder. Right now that -7F "feels like" -19F, which is -28.3C, which is a lot colder than the freezer in the coldbox. And it's colder in places like Whiskeronsin, where Ducky lives.

Not Wordless Wednesday

Mom was sitting on the couch reading when she felt it shake. She thought it was the heater and was surprised.  But when she got up she saw me napping there. She took a picture but it is a bit fuzzy because she didn't want the flashy thing to shine in my eyes.

It is so cold out today that Mom closed the doors to the sewing studio. Because of all the windows it is colder out there than in the rest of the house.

Cold, Colder, Coldest

It is very cold here. It is 11F (-11.6 C) and supposed to get colder. The HIGH today is expected to be 18F (-7.7C) and we might get some "snow showers" later this afternoon.

This is nothing compared to tomorrow. The weather guys think it will be in the minus numbers by tomorrow night and -9F (-22.7 C) on Thursday morning. As long as the heat works, the metal masheen starts, Mom says we'll be fine.

Mom, tell me why we live in New Hampster again?

Chilly Millie Monday

It's supposed to be very cold this week. I've got to make sure all my napping spots are nice and warm.

Sunday, January 04, 2015

Silly Sunday

Mom sprinkled some 'Nip on the kitty condo in the front room. (She also opened the blind so I could watch the snow fall outside.)

I had some fun rolling around, and Mom took pictures.

What Direction?

My longtime friend Megan, from Sydney Australia, wants all kinds of information about what Mom calls "the lay of the land" for the When When Contest.  OK Megan, here you go.

When standing at the front of our house and looking out, like at the house across the street, we are facing due East. The sun will move to the right as it goes up. Generally, though (according to Mom) the front of the house is in the sun all day long. There isn't much shade out there until the leaves come out, but that happens after the snow melts.

The snowbanks across the street are about 24" high, and that big pile at the end of our driveway is at least 36" tall. Mom says that will be the last to melt.

Of course, Mom and I would have lost every single When When Contest we've ever had, so what do we know?

Feline Friday

One of the other benefits of napping in this cushion was revealed to Mom when she was home with me yesterday. She did not know this spot got so much sun!

It really is pretty awesome.

Happy New Year 2015!

Mom and I wish everybuddy a Happy New Year in 2015. We wish you all good health, fortune and happyness.
