This was the view outside our front windows this morning as the sun was coming up. Four inches (10cm) of the fluffy white stuff fell again last night. How much snow is there? Too darn much, according to Mom. Can Spring really be thirty days away?
The good news is the When When Contest will start on Sunday March 1. Stay tuned, kits and cats!

Snow, Snow, Snow
It's snowing, as you can see, and it should snow all day today, all day tomorrow, right into Tuesday.
And this is really the only way to deal with it.
PS, for Ellen in Oregon (and others), you can find Mom's recipe for English Muffin Bread here:
http://cookswithlove.blogspot.com/2007/11/english-muffin-bread.html
Mom says the English Muffin Bread is wicked easy to make and doesn't require any bread making skill at all.
Mom had a cooking blog for a while. A lot of her favorite recipes are there.

More Snow!
Yes, we are getting MORE SNOW today. The weather guys say we could get another 10 to 16 inches (25 to 40 cm) of the fluffy white stuff during the day today.
Yes I am sure all of you who are eager for the When When Contest think it's really cool. Mom isn't exactly thrilled. She hired somebody to climb onto the roof of our house and shovel the snow off.
It was more than a little freaky to hear somebody walking around up there, and to see the snow falling while the sun out.

White Wednesday
How much snow did we get yesterday? I dunno, but it was more than 18 inches and less 24.
This was lunchtime yesterday. You can see how the wind was blowing the snow around.
This was dinnertime yesterday. See how the car on the right was almost totally buried?
Lookit the snow on the neighbor's oil tank.
In other words, we got a LOT. We were furry lucky, we did not lose power. Mom and I were comfy and cozy all day long. I napped and Mom watched the tennis and worked on her tippy-tappy lapbox. When I got tired of napping, I plopped myself next to Mom and got scritches. When I was done with scritches I went back to napping.
It ended up being a good day for both of us.

Blizzard Wednesday, updated!
We haven't had a lot of snow so far this winter, but today will be the day to change all that.
We live near Manchester, at the top of this map.
For my Aussie and Kiwi friends, 36 inches is over 91 cm. The weather guys think we will get between 18 to 25 inches (45 to 63 cm) before the storm is over on Wednesday.
The governor of our state has already declared a State of Emergency, which means if you are not "essential" you stay home. Schools everywhere have been cancelled for Tuesday AND Wednesday.
Snow is expected to fall at a rate of one to three inches AN HOUR, which Mom has never seen before. At that rate, the snowplow guys can't keep up. Not every snowstorm is a blizzard. According to Wikipedia (yes, I looked it up), "a blizzard is a severe snowstorm characterized by strong sustained winds of at least 56 km/h (35 mph) and lasting for a prolonged period of time – typically three hours or more." The biggest problem in a blizzard is that you can't see more than a quarter mile ahead of you (400 m), and it can get so bad it is called a "whiteout" which means you can't see anything. So it is unsafe to be on the road, and they want everybody to stay home.
Works for me.
Big problem though, is that those high winds can cause power outages. I do not want that to happen.
IF we have power, and IF we have innernets, I will post pictures of what it looks like outside as the storm progresses. Otherwise... well, let's not think of that.

this photo was taken Monday morning. It will be interesting to see how much snow there is on Tuesday....
Update Tuesday AM...
This is what it looks like outside the sewing studio this morning. It is snowing and the wind is blowing it around. It is hard to tell just how much snow we have so far, but it looks to be about six or seven inches (15 - 17 cm). The storm isn't done yet, and we will get more. We are warm and cozy, and Mom is watching the tennis in Oz while also keeping up with the local news. Keep your paws and fingers crossed!

Millie Monday
Mom, just because this quilt has been shown in three big quilt shows all over the US of A, it doesn't mean it isn't mine to nap on whenever I want.
To all the When When Watchers, we have another big storm coming on Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Freaky Friday
Last night Mom and I had our dinners and then Mom did the dishes. When she looked out the window, she thought it was foggy, but when she got a better look...
It was snowing.
Twenty minutes later, it was over.
Mom says it was a "snow squall."
I guess a snow squall is a lot better than a blizzard.

Happy Valentine's Day!
This is what it looked like outside before it got dark last night. Lots of snow, and we were supposed to get more overnight. We'll know more when the sun comes up.
Yes, Megan, there will be a When When Contest this year. Look for more about it next week.
Happy Valentine's Day everybuddy! Mom got me a nice bag of my favorite 'Nip and some Tem-ta-shuns treats.

Mo Snow
We got about two inches of snow Sunday night. That's about 5 cm for my Aussie friends. We are expecting more snow on Thursday. Mom's not thrilled, but there's not much she can do about it.
You just gotta do what you gotta do to get through it.

Wet Wednesday
It started snowing very early this morning, but now it is raining. We might get between 3 to 6 inches of snow, or some mixture of rain and snow. Right now it's just rain, and the temperature is above freezing, but if the temperature drops, the wet stuff on the roads will freeze and the driving will be nasty (read: bad)
I'm camped out on the recliner, under a quilt so nicely provided by Mom.
My good friend Poppy Q asked me if we keep the heater on all the time here in cold New Hampster in winter. The answer is YES! With the average low temperature of 10F (-12C) and the average high of 31F (-0.5) in January, we need the heating monsters. (By contrast the average low in the hottest month, July, is 58 (14C) and the average high is 82F (27.7C))
We have a gizmo called a thermostat on the wall. Mom sets it at 64F (17.7C) at night and during the day when she is gone. The thermostat makes sure the house never gets colder than 64F. When it gets to 64F, the heating monster kicks on and heats the house to 66F, and then shuts off. Depending on how cold it is outside, the temperature in the house will fall quickly or slowly. (when it's -20 it gets cold fast.) When Mom gets home from day hunting, she turns the thermostat up to 67F (19.4C) and keeps it there until she goes to bed, when she pushes it back down to 64F.
That's why Mom bought me a heated cat cup, and leaves lots of nice cozy pillows and blankets all over the house for me to nap on and be cozy. Mom always wears a fleecy sweater in the winter, and walks around in her stocking feet and her LL Bean "wicked good" slippers.
Mom usually turns the heating monster on for good about the middle of October, and it goes off for good usually at the end of April. We can have a freeze (32F) right up until the end of May, so sometimes Mom turns it on at night if it's going to be that cold.

Uh-oh!
We are in that 2 ft + area. (Well, barely, but still...) For my Aussie pals, 2 feet = 24 inches = 61cm!!!
Mom went food hunting last night after supper. When she got there, the parking lot was full and there were no shopping carts waiting (which is why Mom grabbed one from the parking lot as she walked in.) Mom said there were no bananas, no bread, no chicken and no ground beef. You know what else was (almost) gone? STINKY GOODNESS!!!!!!!
Mom was able to find enough of the flavors I like so I will not run out.
The storm won't really get going until late tonight, but the schools are all closed today. Mom will make some bread and roast a chicken so there will be food to eat even if the power goes out. We have batteries, lots of food and all the electronic gizmos are all charged up.
Stay tuned. Mom and I will try to post sorta regular updates during the storm.
Update, 8:46 AM Friday.
You know your Mom REALLY loves you when she goes out first thing in the morning to buy more of your FAVORITE Stinky Goodness!!! Now I can truly relax.
PS, since we have had requests, here is Mom's Zombie Eye. If you don't want to look at it, don't scroll down. If you do...

Tattle-tale Tuesday
It snowed yesterday. Not much, but the roads were really nasty. Mom's boss let her go home early and it took Mom at least twice as long to get home as usual. Mom waited at this traffic light for three cycles before she got to go through it. Everybody was driving really slowly.
Mom says the last two miles were the worst.
Have I told you lately how glad I am to be a cat?

Snowy Sunday
The weather guys said we were supposed to get 3 - 5 inches (7.6 - 12.5 cm) of snow last night, but it looks like we got a lot more. I'm glad I don't have to move the stuff around.
Because, you know, I have important stuff to do.

Thursday Thought
The snow finally stopped after dark last night. This is what it looks like this morning.
Mom usually waits until there are no metal masheens in the street when she takes the picture, but today, she wanted you to see how high the snow is.
Where was I hiding out during the snowstorm?
In my tent!
Mom made the tent about four years ago, and I liked it as much as I liked the cat cup.
Heh!

Monday, Snowday

Hey, Mom was trying to watch the tennis in Australia last night at the same time as Iron Chef. Can anybody tell her if the new Iron Chef Garces won his first battle?
