Millie Monday

Mom's been sick and I haven't been able to post much. She caught me watching the reflection of the suncatcher hanging in the window. I am not trying to find a way to escape.

Sure is pretty outside, but I'm glad I'm an inside kinda cat.

Fluffy Friday

Yup, we got the fluffy white stuff. Snow doesn't get any prettier than this.

Got Snow.

We have lots of snow.

lots and LOTS of snow.

We have icicles too.

The snow is so high, it reaches the bottom of the kitchen window.

Yeah, it's pretty and all that stuff, but Mom and everybody else in New Hampster is totally over it. We'll give it away to anybody who wants it.

Finally Friday

It is snowing this morning, and so it is grey. Too dark for a photo of me sitting on my kitty condo in the sewing room watching over my domain.

Mom has chosen the view for the When When Contest, and it isn't the one you think.

It's this view, outside the front of the house.  I think Mom was very tricksy when she chose it, because those big piles of snow will take a long time to melt...  Oh well.  When When Watchers, get ready, but not too ready, because we have to get through February before the contest starts. And the snow has to still be here by then.

Heh.

White Wednesday

How much snow did we get yesterday? I dunno, but it was more than 18 inches and less 24.

This was lunchtime yesterday.  You can see how the wind was blowing the snow around.

This was dinnertime yesterday. See how the car on the right was almost totally buried?

Lookit the snow on the neighbor's oil tank.

In other words, we got a LOT.  We were furry lucky, we did not lose power.  Mom and I were comfy and cozy all day long. I napped and Mom watched the tennis and worked on her tippy-tappy lapbox. When I got tired of napping, I plopped myself next to Mom and got scritches. When I was done with scritches I went back to napping.

It ended up being a good day for both of us.

Not so Snowy Sunday

We didn't get a lot of snow during the day yesterday, only about four inches, but we did get a little bit more after the sun went down. We're supposed to get a lot more in a big storm coming on Tuesday.

I spent the day napping in my kitty condo. Mom cleaned the house.

Once again, have I told you lately how glad I am to be a cat?

What Direction?

My longtime friend Megan, from Sydney Australia, wants all kinds of information about what Mom calls "the lay of the land" for the When When Contest.  OK Megan, here you go.

When standing at the front of our house and looking out, like at the house across the street, we are facing due East. The sun will move to the right as it goes up. Generally, though (according to Mom) the front of the house is in the sun all day long. There isn't much shade out there until the leaves come out, but that happens after the snow melts.

The snowbanks across the street are about 24" high, and that big pile at the end of our driveway is at least 36" tall. Mom says that will be the last to melt.

Of course, Mom and I would have lost every single When When Contest we've ever had, so what do we know?

Mother Nature is a Liar

This is what the first morning of Spring looked like when Mom and I got up yesterday. SNOW!  The temperature went up during the day and a lot of the snow melted, but it's still out there, so Camp Stanhope, I'm really sorry, but you did not win the When When Contest.

More Damn Snow!!!

LOOKIT!!!  MORE DAMN SNOW!

Mom got sent home from her day hunting gig after lunch, and she said it was terrible driving. She said it was almost "whiteout" conditions. She took this picture about 2:15 PM today, our time. We are supposed to get MORE of the stuff during the night.

Where am I, you ask?

Napping under a quilt.

I'm no dummy.

Surprising Sunday!

THIS was not in the forecast!

Sn-Sn-Snow!

It's snowing here in New Hampster. Big fat fluffy flakes are falling. Can't see them?

Mom says these big snowflakes make for heavy wet snow that pulls down wires and breaks trees.  It's supposed to snow all day.  Mom has got a big slab of BEEF in the crooket pot, and she's got some bread going. She'll be doing some tippy-tapping (she held up SIX fingers the other night) and then she has to cook the books.  Later we'll watch some guy named Oscar.

Speaking of which, last night we watched the movie Argo. It was very good, and had Mom sitting on the edge of her seat, even though she knew the ending.

Exit Nemo

After Nemo left, the snowplows came by and our driveway got cleared and Mom dug the car out. This is what it looked like after all that stuff happened. If you biggify the picture, you can see how high the snowbank is. (It's about as high as the hood of the truck, which is why Mom included the truck in the picture.)  Notice how you can't even see the stone wall across the street.

The big city snowplow pushed all the snow onto the sidewalk, so now the sidewalk has 30" of very hard packed heavy tough snow. Mom doesn't know if the sidewalk plow will be able to push through it.  Anyway, the sun finally came out yesterday afternoon, but it was still very windy and cold.

Mom says we may yet have a When When Contest after all! Check back next week to find out for sure!

Nemo the Blizzard, Updated

So Friday was kind of a dud in terms of a blizzard. The weather guys had said it was going to start snowing heavily Friday afternoon, but it really started coming down around dinner time.  Here's proof:
This picture was taken at 1:30 PM Friday afternoon.

This was taken Friday at 4:00 in the afternoon. It was kinda sorta snowing, but nothing really serious.

This picture was taken at 7:00 PM Friday. After Mom took the picture, she watched a car try to take a right turn up the hill. It got up as far as that driveway and then couldn't go any farther. As Mom watched, the car spun around, went back down the hill and straight down the street. Mom guessed they would try again after getting a better head start, so she waited.  Sure enough, the car tried again, and this time it just barely made it up the hill.

This picture was taken at 10 PM Friday night. The snow was probably 8 - 10 inches deep here. There's no way of knowing just by looking, and Mom wasn't about to go outside to measure. The snow was really coming down, but the weather guys said it would come down a lot harder overnight, up to two or maybe even three inches an hour. (that's 7.6 cm for my Aussie pals)  That's a LOT of snow.

Here is what it looks like outside at 8 AM on Saturday morning.  It's so white, you can't really see how much there is. Let me tell you it's A LOT!

This photo of Mom's metal masheen is better for you to see how much snow there is.

btw, Mom made chili with beef, two loaves of home made bread and cake. We are both safe and warm.  Very "snug."  Her Zombie eye is getting better too.  Proof further down.

Thursday Thing

This is what it looks like outside this morning after the sun came up.  We were supposed to get between one to four inches of snow, then they changed it to three to four inches. We got 4 inches. It wrecked all kinds of havoc on the roads.  There was a 46 mile (74 km) traffic jam on the way to Boston yesterday morning!!! Boston is about 50 miles away! There were over 60 accidents in New Hampster and at least 60 spinouts. Mom got to her day hunting gig safely (and by driving very slowly).

Mom's tippy tapping is progressing nicely. Last night she held up two fingers.

Ding Dong, The Tree is Gone!

Mom usually takes the Christymas tree down on New Year's Day and this year was no exception. She took all the ornaments, lights, and garlands off the tree, and then dragged it outside. It left a big trail of pine needles through the house, and the rug sucking monster was called in to pick them all up.
Naturally, I hid under the bed while all this was going on.

When it was all over, I came out, and got back to my comfy spot on the recliner. Mom opened up her tippy tappy lapbox and made tippy tapping sounds the whole rest of the day.  The house is back to "normal" and like several of you commented over the last couple of days, if we keep having snow this winter, we will have a great When When Contest in March!

Snowy Sunday

The weather guys said we were supposed to get 3 - 5 inches (7.6 - 12.5 cm) of snow last night, but it looks like we got a lot more. I'm glad I don't have to move the stuff around.
Because, you know, I have important stuff to do.

Sn.. Sn.. SNOW!

This is what it looked like outside when Mom got up this morning.

It's pretty to look it. Mom doesn't like having to push it around, though!

Yukky Thursday

It isn't as much as we could have gotten, but it's yukky nonetheless.

Snowy Day

We have known for a few days that we would have "measurable" snow this week. It started last night, and should snow all day.  This is what it looks like this morning.  It's pretty to look at.
