Time for Tennis!
Woo Hoo! The US Open starts today! Mom is all set. She has parked herself in front of the tv. I will watch from the couch. I know Mom loves Roger Federer, and is hoping he can win. I am rooting for the American, Mardy Fish.
Excuse me, the game is about to start...
(see ya!)

Bye Bye Irene!
We are fine.
We had a lot of rain, and it has been windy, but we are OK. We didn't lose electricity, internets, water, or anything like that. Mom has been working in the sewing room and watching TV. I have been hiding under the bed.
The weather guys said my part of New Hampster "missed a bullet." That's good. It's not over though. Irene may be gone, but she left a big mess.
Up in Campton NH, a dam may have been breached, and the Pemigewasset River* is expected to crest late tonight and a "wall of water" could flood downstream areas. That's not good.
But I'm OK. I'm looking forward to some nice real live dead cooked chick-hen for dinner.
*The Pemi river is a couple of hours north of us.

Ready for Irene
Irene is coming, and Mom and I are ready.
We have foods for me,and Mom.Mom made a cake and has batteries for her flashlights.Mom has charged up all her toys:and bought water for us to drink, and filled up the bathtub with buckets full of water,
(although why Mom did this, I do not know. Irene will be bringing PLENTY of water with her.)
The weather guys say we won't get as much rain, but we are on the side that will get a lot of wind. Around here they are mostly worried about trees falling down over electrical wires. It is raining hard now (11 PM Saturday night) and by the time you all read this (6 AM Sunday morning) it will be raining a lot harder, and by about 9-10 AM it will be VERY windy.
Mom will be watching it all.
I will be hiding under the bed.

Go AWAY Irene!
Mom says I should enjoy the sunshine and the open windows as long as I can because Irene is coming.
Usually when we have company, Mom makes the house look nice. Instead, Mom has moved all the small stuff from the porch to the basement, and moved the flower planters off the railings.Mom went food hunting last night, because she said if she went today it would be crazy. It turned out to be crazy when she was there last night. She said the store did not have any Bananas! Can you imagine? No bananas. Mom bought strawberries instead. Fortunately, Mom also stocked up on stinky goodness for me!
Even though Mom does NOT want Irene to come here, she will be cooking a chicken, some eggs and even baking a cake! I told Mom I thought that was pretty dumb, but she explained that if we lose electricity we will have food to eat, and she said, what the heck, having a cake would be good too.
So we're ready and waiting. Irene should be here on Sunday, and she will be bringing her strong winds (60 MPH) and lots and lots of rain. We hope all our other friends will be safe.

Wordy Wednesday - Thursday Edition
It's not my fault.
Mom's in love with words. In fact, she's addicted.
Did you know that? Mom loves words. She hunts them down. She likes new ones, she likes old ones. She likes knowing how to spell them all correctly. She likes word puzzles. But most of all she likes to follow them.
Mom loves to read.
You know Mom's got a Kindle. Over the last two or three weeks she has been hooked on the thing, reading as she eats breakfast, reading at lunch, reading as she eats her dinner. She's been reading as she pets me, and has been reading until past her bedtime. She even wakes up in the middle of the night and reads.
There's this guy, Inspector Gamache, in the books she is reading now. Mom's reading the sixth one. She finished the fifth one yesterday, and already she is 3/4 finished the sixth one. After this, there is one more, then she will have to wait for Inspector Gamache's creator, Louise Penny, to write some more.
In the meantime the house goes to pot. Mom doesn't make her bed in the morning (not that I'm complaining. It's a great place to nap.) She goes day hunting, and when she gets home, she feeds me, then sits down to read. After a while she makes her dinner, and eats it (while reading.) She puts the dirty dishes on the counter, and then goes back to reading. She hasn't done any sewing, and as you all know, she hasn't helped me with my blog posts lately.
Mom will run out of words about Inspector Gamache in a few days. The US Open tennis tournament will start next week, and then it will be All Tennis, All The Time. I'm getting my stinky goodness, my treats, and my scritches, so don't worry about me.
I'm just happy that Kindle isn't like the linking books in Myst and Riven.
**Update: Mom finished her book, and the newest one won't come out until next week, so it looks like I have my Mom to myself for a few days!
Go on over to Roxy's and wish Auntie Karate a Happy Birthday.

Frisky Friday
I don't spend ALL DAY on the quilt in the plum wing chair. I do stuff.
What do I do? I sit in the windows and look outside, I whap things, and I hunt.
You heard me, I hunt. A cricket got in the house yesterday. It is getting cooler at night, and they want to get inside to get warm. Well, I do not like bugs in MY house, so I hunted him down and deaded him. I left him on the floor in the living room so Mom would know. I thought she'd take a picture as a trophy, but nope.
(sigh.)
PS, check this out: Cat Scans! It's just too funny!

Sleepy Sunday
I keep telling you this is my new favorite spot.I'm not joking. Whenever Mom looks for me, she finds me in the plum wing chair, napping on one of the quilts Julie made for her.
It really is my favorite spot; what can I say?

Tuxie Tattle Tale Tuesday
Any guesses as to who is responsible for my total miss of World Cat Day yesterday?
It would be the SAME person (hint hint) who got her dates mixed up and set the post for the shedding tool on MONDAY (World Cat Day) instead of TUESDAY, where it should have been.
Ahem.
It wasn't ME!
(And yes, in the grand scheme of things I do know just how lucky I am, but you know, it's in my job description as CAT to tease my Mom.)

Millie Monday
Mom says the thing she uses to get rid of my old, loose furs is called a "shedding blade."
She can't remember where she bought it, but you can find them here, and here.I like it because it Mom can use it without holding me down. You all know how much I like to be held, right?
Mom says to read the reviews.

Strange Saturday
When I first got here, I let Mom pet me a little. Now I tell her when I want to be petted, and where I want my scritches. Sometimes she'd try to brush me, but I wasn't quite sure about it. Now though, I like it. Mom has this funny thing she uses as a brush, and it pulls out some of my extra furs. It doesn't hurt, and my furs look really nice afterwards. Lookit this pile that came off this morning!

My 5th Gotcha-Day Anniversary!
Holy Toledo, Batman! (dunno who Batman is, but it sounded good.) I've been here FIVE years! If my Rescue-Day was the Most Important Day of My Life, then August 5, 2006 is the second most important day. It's the day I got my Mom and my Forever Home. I know all cats with Forever Homes are lucky, but I really lucked out. My Mom helped me start a blog, (today is also my Blog-o-versary), and through my blog I have friends all over the world!
Mom and I get along real well. I've got her trained pretty good. She feeds me the foods I want, I get scritches when I want, all the 'Nip a girlcat could ask for, and a squillion awesome napping spots.
Mom sang the Happy Gotcha Day song to me this morning when she brought me my favorite stinky goodness - BEEF!
Oh happy me!

Thursday Thoughts
Mom's been doing some chillaxing, I have to give her credit. She's been sitting in her comfy chair watching tv, catching up on the Next Design Star, Next Food Network Star, Masterpiece Mystery, White Collar and one of her new favorites, Suits.
She's also been yakking on the phone and reading about some guy named Inspector Gamache. She hasn't been completely lazy though. Last night she did the dishes and left the kitchen clean before she went to bed. She hasn't done that in a long time.
Do you know she's been so distracted lately that she forgot to buy my stinky goodness when she went food hunting last time? Really! Good thing I have a BIG stash of extra stinky goodness.
Before I forget, Happy 50th Birthday, Mr Obama!
