Will There Be When?

At the beginning of February, all thoughts turn to When.

Really.

They do.

Everycat starts asking if there will be a When When Contest this year.**

There really isn't any way to tell. We'll have a When When Contest if there's enough snow on the first of March to make a contest successful. That's almost a month away.

This is what it looked like when Mom and I got up yesterday. Not a whole lot of snow. That's going to change today.

We're supposed to have between 8 and 14 inches of snow today. That's 20 to 35 cm.  The weather guys say when the storm is biggest we will get almost two inches (almost 5 cm) of snow per hour. That's a lot.

Mom has already told her day-hunting boss that she'll be staying home, so we will get a few pictures to update this post during the day.

Paws crossed!

Update: 7:30 AM. The snow has started to fall.

Update: this is about 10:30 AM

Update: This was taken at lunchtime, about 12:30 this afternoon.
Mom went outside and cleaned off about six inches of snow off the metal masheen. The plow guys haven't come by yet.

** What? You've never heard of the world-famous When When Contest? All you have to do to win is guess when all the snow will be gone when Mom and I look out this window in the morning.  It's not as easy as it looks.

Happy Anniversary Mim-may & Pip-pay!

Happy Anniversary Mim-may and Pip-pay! Today they have been married 27  26  years. (I think. That's a very big number, and I am only a cat. Hey look, Mom can't count either.) That's Mim-may on the left and Pip-pay on the right with Rubylocks and Mr Karate between them.

The snow is still out there.

Drat.

Update on When When

You're not seeing things, but this picture was taken 11 years ago on April 26!!! So Jewel, you do have a chance to win the When When Contest this year!!

Mom has added all the names of the contestants and the dates of their guesses on the sidebar. Please check to see if your name is there, and that Mom has spelled it correctly. If something is amiss, you had best let her know NOW.  We have ten days before the contest really gets going (because the first guess is March 17th), so I'm sorry to bore you with outside pictures of the dullest part of the neighborhood, but oh well. These pictures make it look so yukky, but really, come summer when everything is green it is really nice.

OK, it's snowing now, and it's dark. Mom will add a photo of what it looks like outside when the sun comes up.
Here is the view outside this morning. (sigh)

I really do hope it STOPS SNOWING because a Virgin (I kid you not) is supposed to be bringing La Girlfriend here from sunny California to snowy New Hampster later this weekend and I really want to meet her.

PS, I am napping under a quilt tent.

The When When Contest is ON!

This picture was taken Saturday morning. We got about 2" of snow overnight. The sun came out, and a lot of it melted, but we are to get More Snow Saturday night and Sunday morning. I'll update this post with pictures later.

The big question is.... "When will the snow MELT?" That's what I want to know.

When will it be ALL GONE?

Would you like to guess? The When When Contest is ON again this year. The cat, woofie or bun who guesses the date when there is NO MORE SNOW when Mom looks out this window each day will get a prize. (Temptaytions and other goodies, you know, fun stuff like that! Mom will also include a small box of the famous Evil Little Chocolates for your mom.)

Every day Mom will get up and take a picture of this same view and post it on my blog. On the day she wakes up and THERE IS NO SNOW ANYWHERE IN THE PICTURE will be THE DAY. If you guess the EXACT day, you will get a prize. If NOBODY guesses the EXACT DAY, the cat who guessed the day CLOSEST TO the day, but not AFTER the day, will get the prize.

Here are the rules:
1. Each cat, woofie or bun gets ONE GUESS EACH.
2. Guesses must be in the comments of THIS POST.
3. The deadline for entries is Midnight Tuesday February 19, 2013. (So when it isn't Tuesday anywhere in the world, the voting will be over.)
4. You have to have a blog, or leave some way for us to get in touch with you, so we have to know who you are. If you have a blog, you're good to go.
5. It's my blog, so if I wanna change the rules, I can.

Now for some useful information.
1. The houses across the street face East. So the snow in their front yards will melt first. Duh.
2. Sun melts the snow.
3. Rain melts it faster.
4. The average high temperature for March in New Hampster is 44F
5. The average low temperature for March in New Hampster is 18F
6. It snows in April. So, guess accordingly.
7. *****The contest ends when there is NO SNOW on the ground in the picture. If it snows the next day, oh well, that's New England weather for you!*****

In 2008, the winning date was April 12.
In 2009, the winning date was April 3.
In 2010, there wasn't enough snow to have the contest.
In 2011, the winning date was April 11.
In 2012, there was no snow. No snow, no contest.

When will the snow be gone in 2013? You tell me.

Tell All Tuesday

Mom and I have made a decision about the almost annual When When Contest.

When When will be!

Yes, it will start very soon, so be sure to check back every day for details. As usual entries will be taken for a few days, so put on your thinking caps and figure out when all this snow will melt!

They should be called "guessing caps" because I don't know when it's going to melt either.

Mom promises me it will.

toodles!

Formerly Feral Friday

It's raining out, and the snow is melting. Compared to last Friday, a lot of the snow has melted. How much longer will the snow last? When, when will it be melted away?
That's the question, and nobody knows the answer. We'll all just have to wait and see.
Me? I'll be watching from the bed. I like this quilt.

Happy Birthday PlusOne!

Dear Caramel, there is still a lot of snow on the ground. (We even got new snow last night!!!!) I am sorry you did not win the When When Contest. I would have been very happy to declare a winner today. It is PlusOne's birthday today. He is 14. Mom says he is taller than she is, and he keeps getting taller. Mom loves him very much. Here he is playing with Mr Karate. (PlusOne is on the left.) Happy Birthday PlusOne!

Sunday Sigh

Mom looked out the window this morning and said, "Millie, this is just what we need."

She's right. We need the snow for the When When Contest.

I don't know why she didn't sound happy about it.

When When Entries

OK Everybody! Mom -hopes- The List is correct now. Mom is very sorry she made so many mistakes. Please check to see that your name is there, and it has the correct date. If your name is missing, please let me know ASAP (and tell me the date.. please!)

Thank you.

Thursday Thing

It still looks cold out there, but the temperature is supposed to get above freezing today, and some stuff should melt. We are supposed to have rain and snow tomorrow. It will be interesting.
Do you know that to take the picture every day Mom actually OPENS the window! Yup! All that cold air blows in. Mom says it smells good. She's right!

We have added the list of all When When guesses in the sidebar, so you can all follow along! It's going to be fun!
Mom has decided she has to clean up her sewing studio. She had fabrics stacked up everywhere, and no room to work, so last night she started cleaning it up. As you can see, I was snoopervising.

Saturday Caturday

Here's what it looked like outside this morning. It was really warm yesterday, and a lot of snow melted. You can look at the rooftops (hardly any snow left) and the height of the snowbanks to really notice the difference.

Mom will be making the big list of all entries later today or tomorrow. I shall be quilt inspecting.

Finally Friday

Good morning everycat! This is the view outside the window today. It was warm and sunny yesterday and a lot of the snow melted! Today is the last day for entries to the When When Contest. Add your guess to the comments of THIS POST!

As for me, well, I'm still the subject of Mom's experimentations with new little camera.

Thinking Thursday

Hello, everycat! This is the view outside the window today. You can still enter the When When Contest. Add your guess to the comments of THIS POST.

Mom got her colors quilt back from the quilter yesterday, and her friend Julie (the same friend Hugo is visiting now) sent me a little quilt of my own. That's it, down there on the floor with the flower.

Heh.

When When Contest 2011

The big question is.... "When will the snow MELT?" That's what I want to know.

When will it be ALL GONE?

Would you like to guess? I am having a contest. The cat, woofie or bun who guesses the date when there is NO MORE SNOW when Mom looks out this window will get a prize. The prize will be treats, and bragging rights! (Occasionally evil little chocolates have been known to appear in prize packages, but Mom is making no promises.)

Every morning Mom will get up and take a picture of this same view and post it on my blog.

3. Deadline is Midnight Friday February 18, 2011. (So when it isn't Friday anywhere in the world, the voting will be over.)
4. You have to have a blog, or leave some way for us to get in touch with you, so we have to know who you are. If you have a blog, you're good to go.
5. You can enter no matter where you live. Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada... all are welcome to enter.

6. Winter isn't over, either. We have had big snowstorms at the end of February, and in March. It snows in April, too. So, guess accordingly.
7. *****The contest ends when there is NO SNOW on the ground in the picture. If it snows the next day, oh well, that's New England weather for you!*****
8. In 2008, the winning date was April 12. In 2009, the winning date was April 3rd. In 2010 the snow was gone by the middle of March.
9. We have A LOT more snow on the ground now than we did in 2008, 2009 or 2010, so this year the contest is starting in February.
10. When the contest is closed, Mom will post a big list of all the entries and dates in my sidebar, so everybody will know who guessed what date. It is your responsibility to check that your name is there, and that your guess is correct. It's usually a big list, and adding the names gets complicated, so if your name is missing, let me know right away. No names will be added to the list after February 25.

So put on your thinking caps, leave a guesstimate, and check back every day to see if you are the winner!

Good luck!

Got Snow Wednesday!

We finally got that snow! It didn't start until late yesterday afternoon, which made Mom's drive home from her day hunting gig a real adventure. You've seen sixty squillion pictures of the snow during the day, so I thought you might like to see this one, taken just before it got really dark.
Mom says it supposed to be sunny and warm over the next couple of days, so the snow won't be hanging around much. But go see Monty! The When When Contest has moved to Mary-land, so be sure to enter the contest, by leaving a guess in the comments of THIS POST!

Now, for those of you who aren't interested in snow, here's a new picture of me. Mom took this while working on Moochie's quilt.
As you can see, I'm fine. I just needed a little break after watching New Hampster's Bode Miller win a medal at the Olympics.

Snow Day

It's a snow day. The schools are all closed because of snow. This is what it looked like outside when Mom left for day hunting. I don't see any snow.

The When When Contest is over at Monty's. Go leave a guess!

Snow When!

Monty and I have decided that since the snow is at his house (and not mine), we will have the When When Contest in Mary-land.

Here's how it will work:

Sometime on Monday, MomBean will post a picture of the snow at their house.

The cat, woofie or bun who guesses the date when there is NO MORE SNOW when MomBean looks out the window will get a prize.

Every day MomBean will get up and take a picture of the same view and post it on Monty's blog.

2. Guesses must be in the comments of this post
3. Deadline is Midnight Wednesday February 17, 2010. (So when it isn't Wednesday anywhere in the world, the voting will be over.)
4. You have to have a blog, or leave some way for us to get in touch with you, so we have to know who you are. If you have a blog, you're good to go.
5. It's my our contest, so if I we wanna change the rules, I we can.

This year's When When Contest will probably be a quick contest, not only because Mary-land doesn't usually get -any- snow (and this year they got Snow-mageddon) but it's usually a lot warmer in Mary-land than New Hampster. Nobody knows how long it will take the snow to melt, so we don't have any idea what dates might be the best.

The prize will be treats, some of the famous evil little chocolates, and bragging rights!

Have fun, and good luck!

Snow a Go Go!

There is still snow on the ground, but it is melting fast. You couldn't tell from the pictures (being taken so early in the morning), but the last three days have been sunny with temperatures in the 50's F, (10C) and yesterday it hit 60F (15.5C). Today it is supposed to be cooler with a light rain.

The stuff is melting fast, and we will likely have a winner of the When When contest very soon!

When When Again!

Since there is still snow on the ground, and we are supposed to be having snow on Sunday night into Monday, I have decided to have the When When Contest again this year. Here's how it will work:

The cat, woofie or bun who guesses the date when there is NO MORE SNOW when Mom looks out this window each day will get a prize.

(this picture was taken February 19, 2009)(this picture was taken this morning, March 1, 2009)

Here are the rules:
1. Each cat, woofie or bun gets ONE GUESS EACH.
2. Guesses must be in the comments of THIS POST.
3. Deadline is Midnight Tuesday March 3, 2009.

7. *****The contest ends when there is NO SNOW on the ground in the picture. If it snows the next day, oh well, that's New England weather for you!*****
8. Last year, the winning date was April 12.
9. We don't have as much snow on the ground this year as we did last year.

So put on your thinking caps, leave a guesstimate, and check back every day to see if you are the winner! Good luck!

Washing Wednesday

Maggie and Bert, can you see the snow in the picture? I can, and that means you two are out of the When When contest. Sorry. But there isn't much snow left on the ground... so I think we might have a winner very soon! Who will it be? Who will win the When When contest?

I have got to get ready...
