It snowed a little last night. Then it rained a bit. Then it got warmer. Then it got colder and everything froze.

I may need to check it out.

Happy Birthday PlusOne!  Mom really loves this picture of him when he was just a kit.

This is picture of him Mom took on Sunday. He is 18 today, which is older than, um, kitty litter. Go on over and wish him a Happy Birthday.

We had a little bit of snow last night, and although it might be sunny tonight, we might have more snowy and snishy weather this week. (sigh)  Actually the snow doesn't bother Mom so much as the cold does. She wants normal March temperatures. And sun. Lots of sun.

The Sixth When When Contest is ON!! - Entry Deadline Extended!

I am happy to announce the Sixth When When Contest will is ON for 2015.

The When When Contest is not an annual event because there isn't always snow on the ground on March 1st. The first When When Contest was held in 2008. The contest was held in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014.

This is the view outside the front of our new house in the town of ----, about four miles away from our other place. We had two full winter's worth of snow in just over a month. The piles of snow on either side of our driveway are both taller than Mom (60").  We have more snow on the ground now than we have ever had in any previous When When Contest.

The big question is.... "When will the snow MELT?" That's what I want to know.

When will it be ALL GONE?

Would you like to guess? I am having a contest. The cat, woofie or bun who guesses the date when there is NO MORE SNOW when Mom looks out this window will get a prize. The prize will be treats, and bragging rights! (Occasionally evil little chocolates have been known to appear in prize packages, but Mom is making no promises.)

Every morning Mom will get up and take a picture of this same view and post it on my blog. On the day she wakes up and THERE IS NO SNOW ANYWHERE IN THE PICTURE will be THE DAY. If you guess the EXACT day, you will get a prize. If NOBODY guesses the EXACT DAY, the cat who guessed the day CLOSEST TO the day, but not AFTER the day, will get the prize.


Here are the rules:
1. Each cat, woofie or bun gets ONE GUESS EACH. (Our friend Megan from Sydney Australia can enter even if she isn't a cat, but she's the only hooman who is eligible.)
2. Guesses must be in the comments of THIS POST.
3. Deadline is Midnight  Wednesday March 4 Friday March 6, 2015. (So when it isn't Friday anywhere in the world, the voting will be over.)
4. You have to have a blog, or leave some way for us to get in touch with you, so we have to know who you are. If you have a blog, you're good to go. (We don't do Facebook.)
5. You can enter no matter where you live. Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada... all are welcome to enter.
6. It's my blog, so if I wanna change the rules, I can.


Now for some useful information.
1. We face true East. South is to the right.
2. Sun melts the snow.
3. Rain melts it faster.
4. The average high temperature for March in New Hampster is 44F
5. The average low temperature for March in New Hampster is 18F
6. Winter isn't over, either. We have had big snowstorms at the end of February, and in March. It snows in April, too. So, guess accordingly.
7. *****The contest ends when there is NO SNOW on the ground in the picture. If it snows the next day, oh well, that's New England weather for you!*****
8. When the contest is closed, Mom will post a big list of all the entries and dates in my sidebar, so everybody will know who guessed what date. It is your responsibility to check that your name is there, and that your guess is correct. It's usually a big list, and adding the names gets complicated, so if your name is missing, let me know right away.

So put on your thinking caps, leave a guesstimate, spread the news, tell your furriends, and check back every day to see if you are the winner!

There Will Be When Wednesday

Dear TBT, Ayla, Iza, Marley, and others who are wondering... YES! There will be a When When Contest (assuming we have snow this winter). Mom isn't quite sure which window we will use, but it might be this one.

In the meantime I have been giving this place the good once (twice, three times) over. I have been opening cabinets and sniffing what's inside. I have even tried to open drawers (with varying degrees of success). I have investigated the closets. The new kitty condo is my absolute favorite place to watch everything. Mom tells me there have been vishus deer spotted here too, along with wild turkeys. Whatever happens inside or outside, I have a perfect observation post.

Uh-Oh Thursday

Lookit what happened. There is a new fence. It is pretty, sure, but like Mom noticed when she tried to get out of the driveway, it's hard to see through and over.  Why does this matter to me?

This is where we watch the snow melt during the When When Contest. If we can't see any snow.... then I don't know what will happen next winter.

Mom tells me not to worry, that everything will work out.

I give my Mom a lot of grief because she's a bean and all, but hey, she's never let me down yet, so I've decided not to worry about it.  Besides, the snow won't fall for a few months.

A Chicken in my Bowl

I've been eating Chick-hen a lot lately.  Mom is pretty good about giving me the stinky goodness I like. This morning she gave me a can of Tur-key. Tur-key is NOT Chick-hen. I demanded my Chick-hen. 

I am pleased to say I got my Chick-hen.  The Tur-key is sitting untouched in the bowl at the right. 

Heh.

This is what it looks like outside today. Sunny and the temps are above freezing, but not what they were yesterday. It isn't looking good for you, Magic and Red, for the When When Contest.

Not Quite When

Sorry Toby, but you are not the winner of the When When Contest.  We will have a winner very soon. When will that snow melt?

I really love my cat tree. I like to rub my head against the platform.  I spend a lot of time napping on top of the house.

Finally Friday

Dearest Samba, I am sorry but you are not the winner of the When When Contest. As you can see, there is still snow outside.

This snow pile is in the shade, so it never gets any sun. It is melting fast, though. I think we will have a winner very soon!

Thursday Thoughts

Prancer Pie, you will not win the When When Contest. There is still snow outside, as you can see.

All the snow across the street is gone. What we are watching now is the pile next door:

It's melting fast, and we could have a winner in a matter of days. Mom's going to have to make a trip to the store that sells the Evil Little Chocolates soon. Mom has also purchased a deck of playing cards featuring "Famous Cats of the Internet" as a gift also.  You can buy a set here, and you can also purr-sonalize your own deck! The best thing is that 100% of the money all goes to Stray Cat Alliance.

Mom is annoyed because Blogger is being a pest and will not let her delete any names from the When When Contestants list. Oh well.

In other news, Mom claims to have hard and fast evidence that I have been drinking from the new fountain. She says the water level was noticeably lower when she got home from day hunting last night, so she filled it to the brim, and this morning, the water level was down again.

Mom hasn't actually seen me drink from the fountain, so she can't prove it's me. I'm certainly not going to tell her. It's much more fun to keep her guessing.

Ta-Da! Tuesday

Mom did it!  Look what the man in the bloo shorts left at my door yesterday.

 

Of course, I haven't actually tried drinking from it yet, but Mom sure has been trying!

 

Mom put a treat on that little dry ramp, but when I touched it with my nose it fell in the water. I did not go after it.

Mom likes that it is stainless steel and that it's easier to clean than the last one. It doesn't have a fountain like thing, but the water slides down a ramp. Naturally I will check it out after Mom leaves. When Mom bought me the first fountain, I didn't drink from it for two or three days. Just to make sure I do have water to drink, Mom puts a water bowl next to my stinky goodness.  I'll be fine, kits, don't worry about me.

Alas, Camp Stanhope, you have not won the When When Contest.

Bummer.

That's Fritzi, and she belongs to Rubylocks. Fritzi had a brother, Murph, but he went to the Rainbow Bridge a couple of weeks ago, so now Fritzi follows Mr Karate around. She is his shadow.

Here We Snow Again

Toy, as you can see you, won't be the winner of the When When Contest this year.

Even Harvey looks surprised about how much snow there will be.  We are in the light purple area where the prediction is 8 - 12" (that's 20 - 30 cm).

Mom is staying home today. She will be cleaning the house and providing me with as many scritches as I want.

I have an announcement. La Girlfriend will now be called Rubylocks.

Which is only appropriate.

Formerly Feral Friday

Hello from New Hampster and one of my favorite napping spots!

Mom says we'll post information about this year's When When Contest tomorrow, so be sure to check back then.

In the meantime Mom's been tippy-tapping up a storm. Lately she's been having three, four, and sometimes five finger days. She's been complaining that it's hard, but really she's sitting on her butt on the couch - and that's soft! Heh. Anyway, she thinks she'll be finished the "first draft" in a few weeks. Then she says she is going to put it away and not look at it for two whole months!!!

So I should be able to resume more regular blogging and I am pretty sure I'll be able to visit more of you and actually leave comments! Mom and I appreciate those of you who have been visiting regularly.

Mom's Zombie eye is almost back to normal.

Rest is apparently the best thing for a zombie eye to get back to normal.  Mom used her little camera to take the pictures, since she couldn't see what it looked like in the mirror.


Hey! Have you seen the You Tube videos of Anakin?  You gotta check those out. That is one seriously awesome cat, and he isn't even bionic!!
