A week ago today, this is what the thermometer said:
That's VERY COLD!
This morning, Mom looked at it, and check this out:
I can tell you that is REALLY WARM for January in New Hampster. It will get colder during the day, and by the time it gets dark, it will be about normal (25 F).
As long as I have a nice comfy place to nap, I'm good.
(Last night Mom held up 3 fingers.)

Not Quite Wordless Wednesday
I hacked up a hairball last night after dinner. I felt really crappy, and spent the evening curled up against Mom while she tippy tapped away.
Mom held up FOUR fingers last night.
And I'm sure you've all heard about this article.

Tattle-tale Tuesday
It snowed yesterday. Not much, but the roads were really nasty. Mom's boss let her go home early and it took Mom at least twice as long to get home as usual. Mom waited at this traffic light for three cycles before she got to go through it. Everybody was driving really slowly.
Mom says the last two miles were the worst.
Have I told you lately how glad I am to be a cat?

MillieCat Monday
I am a Cat. That means I am a hunter. It means I am not interested in making anybody happy except me. I do not seek anybody's approval. It means I eat meat, not green stuff. It means I can jump wherever I want, and it means I can get down by myself. Being a cat means I am a loner, except when I don't want to be. I'm unpredictable, enigmatic, mysterious and elegant. I am nobody's fool.
I am a Cat. If you don't like it, I don't care.

Feline Friday Throwdown Part 2
Sorry, Roxy, I'm staying inside because my experience with being outside was not good.
I am a bionic kitty, and I want to stay this side of the Bridge.
Who wants yukky green junk when you can have real live dead BEEF!!!
I love my heated cat cup. See?
Eat your heart out Roxy!

Thursday Throwdown!
This is my fur-cousin Roxy. As you can see, she is a woofie.
She and my fur-cousin Lucky are very well loved, but on her blog today Roxy bemoans the fact I have one of these,
and she does not.
I can think of LOTS of reasons why Roxy does NOT have a heated cat cup, but I do not have time today to talk about those. Those can wait until tomorrow.
However, I do not think this is the REAL REASON why Roxy is so frustrated. I believe the real problem, the REAL source of Roxy's jealousy is because she does not have one (or two) of these:
Yes, dear readers, it is a litterbox. I have to assume THIS is the real object of Roxy's desire. Because if Roxy had one of THESE, she would not have to go out in this.
My apologies, dearest Roxy, that you were born a woofie.

Not Quite Wordless Wednesday
It's been very cold here, soMom and I have been snuggling together while we watch the tennis. We watched Sloan beat Serena and Roger beat Jo-Willie.
Mom was busy too. Last night she held up three fingers.

Tattle Tale Tuesday
I love it when the weather guys get it this wrong. We were "supposed" to get four inches of snow overnight. We got a little more than a dusting. The one part they did get right is that it is COLD! It is 19F outside right now (that's -7C for my Aussie pals). It's gonna be COLD all week, but I have lots of warm places to nap.
Lucky me!

Millie Monday
Yes, I am lying on Mom's lap. It's one of my napping spots, but I since Mom doesn't spend much time lying on the couch covered with a quilt I don't get much of an opportunity to do this. I only nap on top of her when she is covered by a quilt.
oh well!
oh well!

Easy Like Sunday
I'm taking it easy. I'm napping near Mom's feet as she watches the tennis. When she got up (late) this morning, the match between Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka was still going on, so both got comfy on the couch and we watched the rest of it.
Dear Derby, and others who wondered yesterday... Mom likes to watch the matches as they happen, that way she doesn't miss anything. When the match is rebroadcast, stuff gets cut out.
I heard about Holly, an indoor cat in Florida who got out of her family's camper when they were traveling last November, and traveled 190 miles (305 km) to her hometown two months later. Nobody knows how she did it, but they're sure it was Holly - she had a microchip identifying her. She's currently my hero. You should go read about her.

Insanity
You know your Mom is insane when she gets up at 3:00 in the morning to watch her favorite tennis player, Roger Federer, play in the Australian Open. Could she have watched a re-run, later in the day? Sure. But she got up, and watched it while it happened. After Roger won, she went back to bed.
What did she do when she got up?
She watched the re-run.
I mean, really?

Thursday Thing
This is what it looks like outside this morning after the sun came up. We were supposed to get between one to four inches of snow, then they changed it to three to four inches. We got 4 inches. It wrecked all kinds of havoc on the roads. There was a 46 mile (74 km) traffic jam on the way to Boston yesterday morning!!! Boston is about 50 miles away! There were over 60 accidents in New Hampster and at least 60 spinouts. Mom got to her day hunting gig safely (and by driving very slowly).
Mom's tippy tapping is progressing nicely. Last night she held up two fingers.

Millie Monday
It is as blah out today as it was yesterday. It is supposed to be warmer today (almost 50F!) than over the weekend. It will be foggy and gray. Yech. As Mom was listening to the radio guys this morning one of them asked, "Would you rather have another day of gray foggy warm weather like we have had all weekend, or would you rather have it sunny and 30 degrees?"
Mom and I would rather have it sunny and 30 degrees.
In other news...
We are very happy that my pals, the guys named Pat won their game yesterday. I am sorry that Gronk hurt his arm again. I like watching him.
The Australian Open has started. You all know how much Mom likes tennis!
Mom and I continue to watch and love Downton Abbey.
Mom has taken a tiny break from tippy tapping. She says the house has reached critical mess and it needs cleaning up.
That's the news from my little corner of New Hampster today.

Foggy Bottom
This is what it looks like outside my window. It's foggy. Mom says that's because the ground is cold and the air is warm. The snow has been melting and it is yukky looking. Last night the temperature did not go below freezing, as it does in winter. The weather guys say that's a "thaw." I guess.
It's blah looking and it makes for a good day to find a nice comfy spot to nap. I will do just that, but you know Mom. She says she has to wash the dishes, fold the laundry and cook the books. I've got to get her to go food hunting too, because there are only four cans of stinky goodness left on my shelf and that's only enough for two days.
***Update: Mom went out this afternoon and refilled my stash of stinky goodness. I am all set. Thank you for your concern.

Fingers Friday
You wanted to know what the fingers meant? I'm trying to find an answer.
Here is Mom's reply.
You say you can't see anything on the paper?
You say you can't read those letters?
Yeah. What can I say? You all know my Mom well enough by now to know she isn't going to tell you anything she doesn't want you to know. She's tricksy like that.
Happy Friday everybuddy.

Throwback Thursday
Mom's been so busy tippy tapping she hasn't been taking pictures as much. This picture of me was taken back in January 2008.
About Mom's tippy-tapping... She is moving right along, and is working on something she calls "first draft." Every day she holds up some fingers to tell me how she's doing. Last night it was one, but the night before it was three. Some days she gets as high as four, and once she got to five, but on days like that NOTHING else happens (except we both get fed). Usually it is two fingers.

Timely Tuesday
You all know my Mom loves clocks, and she has at least one in every room of the house.
this one is in the dining room. (Mom made it)
this one is in the "office" although since Mom has been doing a lot of tippy-tapping that room is now a pit of despair.
this one is in the sewing studio. You can tell Mom "customized" this one too.
Each of these clocks is powered by a tiny little battery. What's so special about them? This past weekend all three needed new batteries on the same day.
Doo-do-do-do-do-doo... Very strange.

Millie Monday
I really love my crunchies. Don't get me wrong, I love my stinky goodness too, but sometimes crunchies are just the ticket.
Yesterday Mim-may and Pip-pay came over for dinner. Mom made a pork stew with oranges and cranberries. It cooked in the hot-as-hell box all afternoon. It smelled good, but I much prefer BEEF, as you all know.
Missy-the-woofie came over too. She loves my foods, and Mom has to put them up on the desk so Missy. Missy is a geezer woofie. I know this because when she came too close to me and I hissed at her, she didn't run away. Missy-the-woofie didn't get any pork stew either.
In other news, Mom watched Downton Abbey last night. Like Duh! She's only been counting the days. For those of you who didn't stay up to watch the whole thing, I won't spill the beans.
OK, gotta go. There's a nice warm napping spot waiting for me, and I'm not gonna tell you which one it is!

Easy Like Sunday Morning
It's so important to keep Mom guessing. This is another of my favorite napping spots.
It's nice and sunny out today. We did get a "dusting" of snow overnight, but the temperature is supposed to be above freezing, so some of the snow will melt. Not much, but Mom would like the icy patches in the driveway and the parking lot to go away.
Yesterday Mom made her famous homemade bread and a marble pound cake. I sense a feast coming...

Sunny Saturday
Mom has been wondering why I haven't been napping in my heated cat cup.
Today, she got the answer.
Mom caught me napping on this nice warm pillow in the warmest room in the house. In the sunniest room!
Drat!
I hate giving up my secrets!

New Hampster is Pink!
I am very happy to tell everybody that the great state of New Hampster is PINK!
(photo from the New York Times)
Folks in our state take their politics very seriously, but this year they did something no other state has ever done. You can read all about it here.
They elected women to every position in Congress. And they also elected a woman for governor. It doesn't end there. The speaker of the House and the Chief Justice are also women.
New Hampster is a very small state, and I am proud to say we are "ahead of the curve."

Ding Dong, The Tree is Gone!
Mom usually takes the Christymas tree down on New Year's Day and this year was no exception. She took all the ornaments, lights, and garlands off the tree, and then dragged it outside. It left a big trail of pine needles through the house, and the rug sucking monster was called in to pick them all up.
Naturally, I hid under the bed while all this was going on.
When it was all over, I came out, and got back to my comfy spot on the recliner. Mom opened up her tippy tappy lapbox and made tippy tapping sounds the whole rest of the day. The house is back to "normal" and like several of you commented over the last couple of days, if we keep having snow this winter, we will have a great When When Contest in March!
