NH's New Top Cat Gets to Work

You all remember the vote for Mount Washington Observatory's Top Cat last week. Marty won. This past Wednesday, he moved from the shelter to his new job. To get to the top of Mount Washington in the middle of winter, you have to go up in a snow tractor. So, this picture is of Marty getting handed over to his new beans, ready for his trip up to his new forever home.

He did pretty well on the trip up, and when he was let out of his PTU, he was a little freaked out. But after a little while, he started adapting to his new home. You can read about it here.

How lucky can you get? Marty is not only Formerly Feral, but now he's gonna be Famous!

I have received several awards over the last few days, and over the weekend I hope to catch up showing them off, and figuring out to whom I should pass them out.

Stash Report

First of all, if you live in New Hampster, make sure you go out and VOTE in the Primary! Mom says it's a great thing to be able to have a part in selecting your country's leader, so you must vote.

Secondly, go vote for New Hampster's Top Cat at the Mount Washington Observatory. You can only vote from 8 AM to 7 PM NH time. Even Poppy Q in New Zealand can vote! Go HERE to vote for Top Cat. You know how Mom's been moaning about how cold it has been? Well, it ain't NOTHING like the weather at the top of Mount Washington. They have the world's WORST weather. And the Top Cat will have a furrever home up there! Vote HERE!

Business out of the way, now for the Stash Report.

Every quilter has a "stash." It's fabric. I've told you Mom is a fabricaholic. Of course, she has to have fabric to make the quilts. When she receives an order of fabric, she has to put it in the washer and the dryer, and then she has to iron it. From there she cuts strips. While she's cutting, she hangs the strips on this rack. It folds up when she is done. This way, the strips hang straight down, and don't get wrinkled (so she doesn't have to iron them before she uses them.)

When she is finished cutting, she matches them into pairs, sewing a fat strip to a skinny one. Then she has to iron those.From there, she cuts them into "chunks" and then makes the quilts. After she's made a bunch of quilts, she has chunks left over, sitting all over the place, and she has to put them away in bins. She has them sorted by color. Tonight she labeled all the bins. This way she can see what she has without moving all the bins around.When (ha ha) she is all done with the strips, she adds them to her stash, in the closet. She hangs them together, sorted by color, on covered coat hangers, again, so she won't have to iron them.

Uh, Mom, you gotta get going. You should be busting that stash, not adding to it!

PS, she had a terrible day at work on Monday. She says if she never sees another printer or print driver or print server again it will be too soon. So don't mention anything about them!

Update on Top Cat

Remember a week or so ago when I posted about Nin, who was retiring from being NH's Top Cat at the Mount Washington Observatory?

Well, everybody (except us cats, of course) was astonished at how much Nin's story traveled around the US, and got everybody interested.

The Conway Area Humane Society has selected three possible cats to take Nin's position as mascot.

The folks at MWO have decided to rely on "the voice of the people" to select the next Top Cat. You can visit this link to read all about it, and then, on Tuesday January 8, 2008, the same day as NH's presidential primary, you can vote for your own choice.

What-if Wednesday

Speedy & Sadie left a comment yesterday, asking what did I think would have happened to me if I hadn't been rescued by Malcolm.

Well!

So today, I am posting "What-if Wednesday."

What if I hadn't been hit by a car? Well, a young lady cat my age would almost certainly have had at least one litter of kittens by now, maybe even two. And I would have to be fighting for food and shelter every single day. That would have been a very tough life. I would also have had to hunt for my own safe home, and would probably have had to fight other cats to get it. Maybe I would have lost. Probably I would have been badly hurt. I might very well have been hit by a car sooner or later. (shudder!)

What if Malcolm hadn't picked me up out of the street? I would most certainly have been hit by another car and killed, and gone to the Rainbow Bridge and not even known any of the cats there! (how sad!)

What if Malcolm had picked me up, brought me to the v-e-t and said, "Put this cat out of its misery"? Would the v-e-t there have done it? Or would they have fixed me up on their own, and then put me in a shelter? (Dunno.)

What if Mom had decided she already had enough cats with her two senior Tuxies, Gizzy & Jasmine? (Oh! I would never have known Gizzy!)

Would somebody else have adopted me? (Probably.)

But Malcolm did rescue me.
But the v-e-t did fix my leg.
But the wonderful cats in the blogosphere helped with the green papers.
But my Mom did adopt me.
But I did make friends with Gizzy and Jasmine.
But I do have lots of friends in the Cat Blogosphere.

I am so lucky. Who would have thought that getting hitted by a car would be the start of the best thing that ever happened to me.

Now I am Top Cat!
