Black, Black, Black and White Wednesday

Later today, Mr Karate will be promoted to Third Degree Black Belt. In honor of that occasion, today isn't Wordless Wednesday, but Black, Black, Black and White Wednesday.

This is Mr Karate, with his new cello, which he has named "Helen." (You know, she's the one who launched a thousand ships. Or so Mom says...)

Mr Karate has passed a big test and now he is a (drumroll please)....

Third Degree Black Belt!

He will get his Third Black Belt in a ceremony later this month. Concatulations Mr Karate! Your Mom is really proud of you!

Mrs Big is a Black Belt!

Mrs Big got her Black Belt in Kenpo Karate in a ceremony Friday night. The Black Belt Candidates wear a half white, half black belt during the last part of their training to remind them of all the things they learned since they started training. Mrs Big trained for four years to reach Black Belt. Once they get their Black Belt, they sign the white part of the Candidate belt. Mrs Big got to wear the same belt Mr Karate wore when he was a Candidate. Here she is with Mr Karate and their Candidate Belt.
And here she is with a GIGANTIC happy smile after the ceremony ended, wearing her Black Belt and holding some beautiful roses that Mom got her:Here Mrs Big signs the Candidate belt with her name & the date she was awarded her Black Belt.
Mr Karate had a very special present. He told her to remove the belt she had just been awarded, and gave her the first Black Belt he got. (If you look back at the top picture, you will see that Mr Karate's belt has two red stripes. This indicates he is a Second Degree Black Belt. He is currently working toward his Third Degree Black Belt, which will take him another year.)
This was very emotional for Mrs Big. She was very very happy with this special gift. Her eyes leaked a lot.Here is Mrs Big with her Mom and Dad, Mim-may and Pip-pay.And here she is with Mom and Mr Karate.

(Mrs Big started training for Karate just before she turned 41. She will be 45 later this month. It just goes to show getting older doesn't mean it's too late to try something new.)

BIG NEWS!

A New Black Belt in the Family!

You all know Mr Karate has two Black Belts. Today we learned that Mom's sister, Mrs Mr Big, passed her tests and has earned her Black Belt in Karate. We are very proud of her.

This picture was taken when she received her Candidacy Belt back in September of last year. The candidacy belt is black and white, (like me) to represent everything she has learned from White Belt to Black Belt. She will receive her Black Belt in a Promotion ceremony later.

The beans in this picture are, from left to right: Mim-may (Mom's Mom); Mr Little Big (Mom's nephew, who is also working for his Black Belt), Mr Big, Mrs Mr Big (Mom's sister), Pip-pay (Mom's Dad), Mr Karate, a family friend, and Mom.
