Ha ha! Last week I did not have something thoughtful to say. But not this week. This week, I am ready!
In April, just after all the snow melted, Mom built this box near the side of the house and filled it full of DIRT! I thought she was crazy. Then she planted some seeds in it. I thought it was a big waste. This box of dirt won't get more than an hour or two of sun during the day.But one month later, green stuff started growing in the box of dirt. Mom says there is fresh Spinach, Arugula, and Mesclun mix lettuces.
A month after that and Mom had already harvested all the Arugula (I like to call it Roo-Gala), and the spinach was going to seed. Mom has planted more Spinach, and more Arugula, and more of the Mesclun mix and some other let-us.Every day she goes out to pick some of these green leaves to eat. I think green leaves are stupid, but hey, Mom's happy, so I'm not complaining. Mom is VERY happy.
Impressive though this box is, you should see what is growing out back!
Last summer Mom bought this little kiddie pool, but she never got around to planting anything in it. This year she filled it with dirt and planted some seeds. She covered the dirt with brown cloth so the weeds (and bad mannered neighbor cats) wouldn't mess up the baby plants she hoped to grow.
You should have heard the stupid upstairs next-door neighbor snicker when he saw what Mom had done. He used words like "crazy" and some other mean things. He didn't know Mom could hear him talking bad about her. She just chuckled, "Just wait, Millie," she told me, "my garden is going to be so nice, he's going to eat his words."
Two weeks later, the plants in the kiddie pool were growing! Lookit these three! Mom says the big one is Zucchini, the next one is Yellow Squash, and the teeny one is Cucumber. I thought those words were getting big enough to eat.But holy cow! Lookit those plants now! Mom took this picture when she got back from day-hunting yesterday, and she says those leaves are gigantic. She's pretty excited, because she found this under those big leaves!
I am thinking my Mom may be crazy, but I think she's crazy like a CAT!
Heh!

All of these achievements are simply marvellous, Millie, but WHERE IS THE NIP?

Wow Millie, you certainly had a lot to say today. Your Mom is a champion gardener. Our Mom grow a lot of squash for dayhunting, but we just see the fruit, because the plants are far away. The make funny toys.
As today is International Box Day, we think your hu-mom gets the "MOST CREATIVE" award for her use of boxes!
Though no "cat in a box" here, these boxes are truly filled with treasures!
I think mom's neighbor is crazy, how dare he talk about her! Great gardening.
Your rude neighbour's loss is your mom's gain Millie - after all we don't think she'll be asking if he'd like anything!!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Such a clever mom to get a nice big garden in the middle of a city!
There is nip SOMEWHERE right?
Your Mom is a very smart gardener. My humans bought some seeds for baby lettuce mix in the spring but never planted them yet. Dad says it is too late, but Mom wants to try anyway.
Wow, great garden, but I agree, it needs some nip!
That is impressive gardening Millie. How does she control those slimy bugs from getting in them?
Wow! That is so cool! Maw sez da let-us stuff looks good!

It is good to sniff, then turn tail!
Your neighbor is a kook.
Enjoy the day Missie Millie
Your mom's done a great job of growing that garden, Millie! That rude neighbor has no idea what he's talking about. We were wondering, though ... didn't your mom grow any nip?
WOW! Does she ever have a green thumb! Not only her thumb but the whole hand is green! Amazing!
Millie - your Mom said that the neighbour would eat his words...well, now she can eat her veggies and not worry about him eating at all.

Your Mom has a good green thumb!
Your mom's garden is great! Obviously you are snoopervising her closely. Purrs.
My hubby spent time one hot day and dug and mixed peat moss and topsoil into his garden, but several of the tomato plants died anyway. Our friend in town gave us some new ones, but maybe I should get a pool, too!!!
Hurray fer Moms gardening! We grow mesclun in windersill boxes in the kitchen widow an potatoes in storage bins outside (they are SO EASY to harvest that way). An yer squashes are bigger than ours an we are further south!!!
Yay for your Mom, Millie! That is one wicked cool looking Zucchini!!!!
