Gizzy

Hey gang, I need you.

Gizzy has been feeling poorly lately. Mom noticed he wasn't eating all his crunchies every day. When she got back from Texcats she noticed he was kinda clingy and grouchy to me all the time. He always sits right next to her after dinner while she works on the silver lapbox. She was petting him a couple of nights ago and something rattled her brain and suddenly she picked him up. As soon as she did, she knew.

Gizzy, last July before I came to live here, weighed 15.3 pounds. When she weighed him two nights ago he was 11-1/2! That's an enormous loss of 3.8 pounds - drastic for a cat.

Mom says Gizzy doesn't seem to be in pain, and he can move pretty much anywhere he wants to go. He still greets her at the door every night, and he's keeping up with his grooming -- all good signs.

Mom called the vet's office. They want him to have stinky goodness, and they want her to make sure he is drinking water. She can add water to his stinky goodness to make sure he gets more. It could be his teeth really hurt. And of course they want her to "keep an eye on him." Well, that's like the ATM machine reminding you to take your cash. Like, Duh!

So we'd really appreciate it if you all could send some positive energy toward Gizzy here in cold New Hampster.

Oh No! Gizzy!

We hope Gizzy is OK. In December Mrs. B also did not eat all her crunchies and I took her to the vet. She had a gum infection and got some antibiotics. And then had her teeth cleaned and now she is fine. We hope it is not anything serious with Gizzy.
Can it be that he lost some weight from being more active playing with you?

Many Purrs and much good kitty karma to Gizzy!

The vet just wants Gizzy to have stinky goodness and to keep an eye on him? You are right that this is a pretty drastic weight loss. Do they want him to come in for an exam?

Anyway, I hopes Gizzy is feeling better soon. I am sending many purrrrrrrrs! Be well Mr. Gizzy! I am a little worried about you.

Doesn't the vet want to do tests? It sounds just like what Smudge's dad described regarding Smudge, before they brought him in to the vet and found that he was having kidney problems. We'll sure be purring for Gizzy, and we hope the vet will find out what's causing him to lose so much weight.

We're doing the one step at a time bit. First we see if he starts eating more.

We hope that Gizzy is feeling better. Our Fudge Ripple is furry thin, but he really likes those dairy flavored Temptations® and both of the new Fancy Feasts that have egg soufflĂ© formulas. He has actually gained a few ounces. Perhaps Gizzy might try those?

Oh, and Cocoa Puff is beside himself (is that possible?) with joy about Jasmine accepting his invitation to be valentines. They'll be furry cute together.

When The Big Thing found I had lost just 1 pound in a year (the v-e-t said so), he went out and bought tastier dry crunchies and started giving us a half can of wet smelly good stuff in the morning.

I've been eating more and I bet I find that lost pound soon.

But I agree with the ovvers that maybe Gizzy should be brave and ask to be checked by the v-e-t. I 'member that it helped The Winter Kitty when he stayed here and dint wanna eat much.

I hates to admit it, but sometimes the v-e-t can actually help.

In the meantime, LC and I and sending purrs Gizzy's way. We are thinking hard about our best foods in hopes that it makes him want to eat.

Here's hoping Gizzy with be all better soon. Good vibes and headbutts coming your way from Ruth and Kittybear.

Oh, Millie, tell Gizzy to get checked up. If he has kidney disease you need to catch it as soon as you can! There are lots of things that can help with it. Here is a good website if he gets diagnosed: http://felinecrf.com/ They have articles and support and a lovely forum for crf-cat owners. I hope that is not it, but if it is, please take good care of him, he's been such a good big brother. Lots of positive energy from here!

We're sending positive thoughts to Gizzy. One thought - is he significantly more active since Millie's arrival than he was before? If he is, that might account for at least part of the weight loss.

I'm sending good thoughts and healing comfort vibes through the air for Gizzy. I hopes it is something really easy to fix. The vet, i hate to admit, can be helpful with that.

We're purring good thots to Gizzy, but yoo reely need to git Gizzy in to see a vet. My bet is that it is a dental problim, wich can eezily be remedeed. My gramma's cat lost the same amownt of wate beefore we reely realized that thare was sumthing rong, and it ternd owt to be an abscessed tooth (wich wood've bin eezier to treet if we'd notist sooner). Alternitly, it cood be thyroid problims or CRF, both of wich are treetabul -- but DO reeqwire treetmint.

In any case, "Wate and see" is not such grate advice. Gizzy cood be slowly starving frum teeths problims.
