Last night, after dinner, Mom was sewing on a quilt, and I was napping nearby. We were watching the National Geographic channel. All of a sudden we heard a loud POP and the tv and all the lights went out!
It was completely pitch black! Now, you know we are in a city. There are streetlights outside that shine in the house, so even when all our lights are out, Mom can still see when she walks around at night. It is never completely dark at night.
But this was different. There were no lights outside in any other houses in the neighborhood, and the streetlights were out too! It was totally, totally black! Mom tucked her needle in the quilt and set it aside. Then she got up and felt her way to the bookcase where she keeps a flashlight. She checked outside, and the entire street had no power! So she came back inside and lit a couple of candles.
After about six or seven minutes, the lights came back on. It took a few minutes for the cable box to start working again, but eventually it did, and we continued to watch Great Migrations, which was -seriously- cool!
Mom finished her quilt. You can see it at her quilting blog. Now she says she is gonna spend her evening tippy-tapping.
I, of course, will spend my evenings nearby, interrupting her at regular intervals to make sure I get enough scritches so her stress level stays nice and low.
It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it. I'm so glad I'm a cat.

Well lovely Millie, humans are dependent on us as "stress-reliever"!!
We are simply the best!

wow, weve had the power go out here, our mom says its the funnest when they go out at work.
You had an eventful evening Millie! Cats are always great stress relievers :-)
Once the electricity went out, not even in our whole neighborhood, just on our side of the street - for three days! It was one of the hottest weeks of the year, too. my human stayed out of the house that whole time, searching for internet, and only came home to feed us and sleep at night. She was totally stressed out, of course, because she was spending all her time away from her stress relief.
we hates it when it's totally black out - the mom cannot see us and ushually kicks us - on her way down to the floor. she says we "trip" her.
Never a dull moment in your house Millie!

We do not like it when the whole neighborhood is dark! We know you are great at interrupting her!
Looking for a flashlight in the dark can be a problem, or so The Food Source tells us. We just lay around until the lights come back on, so we don't have any problems.
Glad everything came back on OK for you.
Our lights sometimes all go out too. Our neighbor is the light fix it guy, so we are never dark for long.
It's always a bit spooky when the lights go out.
So Millie--Could you see better than your Human in the dark?
And actually, when the power goes out, the Human is always relieved if it's the whole neighborhood and not just her building!
That is scary, Millie. It happened once here. We were inna absolute dark, so dark even WE couldn't see. FINALLY, TBT lit a small candle and we could see just fine.
Its a weerd situation...
You are certainly a good purrsonal assistant, even in the dark...
