It's been four months since I have been Top Cat. I've finally got Mom to understand when I want some serious attention. She actually sits down in the green recliner and I sit next to her and she pets me. She finally understands that she has to STAY SITTING until I have had enough, and then she can go do something else.You would think that having two cats before me would make it easier to train Mom to understand me. Not so. It's like we're speaking two different languages.
When I say "Meow," I'm saying Hello.
When I say "Meow, " I want treats.
When I say "Meow, " I want some pets and scritches.
When I say "Meow," I want her to play with me.
When I say "Meow, " I want 'Nip.
When I say "Meow," I want her to feed me.
When I say "Meow," I mean it's time for bed.
I mean, is that so hard?

Those humans can be tricky to train well. I've been working on DKM for 8 years and she's still got some kinks I need to work out.

Humans don't seem to understand the different tones and pitches in our meows that convey what we want. We think training them might be a lifelong endeavour.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get it either - Mum still struggles to understand us - we have to resort to sign language, with a little (toothy) encouragement to get her to understand the most basic commands.

ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to teach the Mum's the language of cat. Someone should make up a cat dictionary for them to refer to. I don't understand it, it is such an easy language, sigh...

ReplyDeleteYep, those beans are dense! Meowm hasn't figured out my tail flicks. There is the hard tail flick that says "oh yes...keep on petting me" and there is the hard tail flick that says "stop petting me now or else". So she got the "or lese" Monday night and I got a swat on the butt. I don't think she will everlearn!
