Got Ice? Got Electricity? Got Lucky!

In New Hampster yesterday we had rain, then it got so cold everything froze. This is the bush out front.

This might look pretty, but it is Very Very BAD! The tree branches get so heavy, they drag the tree right over. See...This happened all over the state yesterday. The trees fell over onto electrical wires, crashed into cars, and even went through the roof of a house. The toppled trees blocked roads making getting around very hard. Many schools were closed. Over one million houses and businesses lost power. Most of those had no heat. And the local grocery store was open, but had no milk, no meat and no "perishables." The local Mall closed for the day.

What's really bad is that many of the homes without electricity won't get it restored soon and it is supposed to be Really Really Cold the next couple of days.

Mom and I were very lucky. When we woke up yesterday we had power, and heat.

  1. Ice storms are very dangerous. I am glad that you still have power and heat. I think its terrible that some people wont get power again for days and days. Thank you for the lovely Christmas card.

I'm glad you & your mom have heat Millie. My friend doesn't and her two kitties are probably kinda frosty.

  6. We're so glad to know you are okay. We were concerned about you when we heard the news last night.

This is a bad time for folks to be without electricity, especially if they have no other source of heat.

  12. Ladies, I hope you are safe and warm today. We have never seen a frozen tree before and although they look pretty, we did not know how dangerous they are. Sure looks like a good opportunity to snuggle on Sunday.
