Not Wordless Wednesday- because it's really TUESDAY!

Alasandra, I am sorry to say you have not won the When When Contest. As everyone can see, there is still a lot of snow on the ground.

Yesterday, Mom came in with a package! It was from my true love, Monty Q, and my Mary-land fambly.

Inside there were treats and a mousie toy chosen for me by SweetBean.

I'm not quite sure how this works. Mom gives me treats whenever I ask. I don't know why I should have to work for them.

MomBean made Mom a shawl to keep her warm when she is sewing in the cold studio, and Mom hasn't taken it off since she took it out of the box, so I guess that means it's a hit.

Thank you Monty Q, MomBean, SweetBean and KidBean, Mooshie and the Caboose. And DadBean.  Hugs and headbutts to you all.

(Monty Q, Mom leaves at 8, so you can teleport over any time and we can have some nice quiet time together.... Obviously my Mom can't tell what day it is...)

Millie Monday

Wow. Lookit how much snow melted. You can see the ground in some places. Soon it will be time to clean up the yard for the garden.

I'm all about cleaning up.

Easy Like Sunday Morning

This is what it looks like outside this morning.

It snowed yesterday. (This was taken at lunchtime.) It didn't amount to much. Because it was above freezing all day, the snow never collected on the roads or anything that was warm.

Mom and I are both surprised the snow is melting so quickly. We had so much of it, it seems it ought to melt slower, but that doesn't seem to be happening.  Of course, as the ground warms up (the ground freezes in winter in New Hampster) the snow melts from the top AND the bottom, so it melts faster.  What happens is the season we call "mud season."

Mom and I are hanging out today. She's got some sewing to do, and while she watches tennis on tv, I'll be watching my own personal Bird TV. It's gonna be a great day.

Snow Showers Saturday

There has been a lot of melting going on, but yes, that dusty white stuff on the ground is what you think it is.  The weather guys say we should get between 1 - 3 inches, but the afternoon temps are supposed to be above freezing so it won't last long.

A new season of Bird TV has started and I am watching.

Finally Friday

Dear Cubby, although it rained a lot yesterday and a lot of the snow has melted, it is still here and you will not win the When When Contest this year.

I was really rooting for you.

Thursday Thing

It got warm yesterday, and then it rained a little bit last night, so the melting is on. You can see the big rock in our front yard, and the Rhodies are warming up too.

Nobody picked today as The Day, which is good because that means nobody lost.

Dear Marley and Ayla and Iza, Mom and I have absolutely no idea when the snow will be all gone. Remember Mom said that if she had entered the When When Contest, she would have lost each year.  However she thinks the snow will be all gone by Tax Day*. That's what she says every year, though.

*For my furriends overseas, Tax Day is April 15.

Almost Wordless Wednesday

The snow is melting here at Chez Tyler. When will it be gone?

I have no idea.

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Tuxie Tuesday

It was cold yesterday, so the snow didn't melt much, but the weather guys say the next ten days should be above freezing and we might even get some rain.

Do you think all this snow will melt in the next ten days?  We'll have to wait and see.

I'll be in my favorite sunny spot, watching.

Millie Monday

Dear Samantha, Thank you for entering the When When Contest. As you can see, however, there is lots of snow on the ground today. I am sorry, but you have not won the When When Contest. Please try again next year.

It has been a lot colder than normal. The average low temperature for March is 22-24F. This morning it is 14F. See how tightly the leaves of the bush outside are rolled up? They do that when they are cold. Compare them to this day to see when they are warmer.

See, I watch these things.

Happy Anniversary Mim-may & Pip-pay

Before we look outside, I want to concatulate Mim-may and Pip-pay on their 28th anniversary. Mom and I visited yesterday and gave them some green papers to use to have some fun. Mom says they will go to Cotton. I hope they use it to get lots of BEEF, because that's the best.

The snow is still here, and tomorrow, finally, the When When Contest will start in earnest.

I can't wait!

Spring-y Saturday?

Yes, this is what you think it is.

I'm going to take a nap.

First Day of Spring?

This is the first day of Spring, but it sure doesn't look like it. It's 16F outside. (That's -8.88C) and we might get some snow tonight. Mother Nature sure does have a sense of humor.

So does my pal Ellen in Oregon. She actually asked me if I could arrange it so our daytime temps stayed COLD for a few more days so the snow wouldn't melt so fast. That way she'd have a better chance of winning the When When Contest. I'm not sure I have to. Cosmo's guess is April 2, and right now that's looking very good. Sasha has April 14, and that's a contender too.

Alas, I am not THAT powerful. The snow will melt when it melts and we will all just have to wait and see what that happens.

Have a nice day furriends!

Thoughtful Thursday

This is my sweetie, Monty Q. (Isn't he the most handsome mancat ever?)

He watches over four little sticky people. (Actually two of them are neither little nor sticky, but still.) He is very good at what he does, and it keeps him furry bizzy. When he gets too tired and needs to recharge his batteries, he naps on MomBean, as you can see here.

I think of Monty every day.

In the snow department, it is still here, although Spring is only a day or so away.

Happy St Patrick's Day

I have green eyes, and that's about as far as I go "putting on the green."

Yes, Mom had lamb chops from Oz the other night. Mom loves lamb. Me, not so much.

The snow is melting, and it's going fast. The snow on our roof is gone. Mom says it's lot easier to see when she drives because the snowbanks are shorter and the roads are wider. It's melting so fast the governor of New Hampster has warned about possible flooding.

But it's still here. You can see more of the rhododendron out front, and you can almost see the big rock in the front garden.  Oh wait, you can't see it because it's dark.  I guess you'll have to come by later.

Millie Monday

The snow is still here, as you can see. We had a "dusting" yesterday but it didn't stick.

Yesterday was boring. Mom and I watched tennis on tv. Mom had some chops for dinner that she says came all the way from Oz.

I did not partake.

Snishy Sunday

It's raining out, but it isn't as warm as it was last week, so the snow is melting very slowly. When it rains and snows at the same time, the weather guys sometimes call it "snish."

Today is a special day. It is Rubylocks's birthday today! She is one of my very favorite beans.
Happy Birthday Rubylocks! I love you!

Happy Pi Day

Mom says I have to celebrate Pi day, but I do not get it. She says today will be very special because at 9:26 AM it will be the first few digits of Pi: 3.1415926.

Still, Mom is the one who gives me stinky goodness, crunchies and treats. She cleans my litterbox and gives me scritches. She buys me toys and gives me 'Nip. Happy Pi Day.

Here in our neck of the woods the snow is melting, as you can see. The When When Contest doesn't really get going until next week, but this stuff is going amazingly fast.  The weather guys say we are going to get some more snow and ice today, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Funny Fishy Friday

Mom's happy today is Friday. Me too.  Not much going on in the snow melting department. It looks outside today pretty much like it looked yesterday.  Most of the snow is gone from our roof and the carport. We no longer have a car tunnel.

Mom ordered a bunch of plants for the side of the house, and she's looking into getting a bat house.

Yes, you heard that right, a bat house. She says they eat mosquitoes and that's good because mosquitoes like to bite Mom, and she says if the bats eat the mosquitoes then there won't be as many to bite her. This sounds like a fishy story to me, but hey, what do I know?  I'm just a cat.

Thank goodness.

Thursday Thing or Two

This is looking outside this morning.

This is what it looked like when Mom got home from day hunting last night.

Mom said it got up to 57F yesterday, and it was mostly sunny, so there has been a lot of melting going on. The temperatures will get back to "normal" in the next couple of days, though. That doesn't mean we might not have another snowstorm. We certainly could, but Mom refuses to shovel anything that falls after March 15th.

The website fivethirtyeight.com has an article called "Has the snow finally stopped". It's pretty interesting. We are one hour's drive north of Boston, and the dates for Boston are pretty close to here. We're not like Denver, or the high country of Colorado, where Mr Cabinetmaker lives, where they have snow through May.

Thank goodness.

Not Wordless Wednesday

It was warm again yesterday. It hit 50F, but it was cloudy, so although a lot of snow melted, there's still a lot left. Mom says it will melt in April. She says she can't ever remember snow on the ground in May, and certainly not in June. Mr Karate says he remembers a snow day on his birthday, which is in late April, and that is very unusual.

It did not get below freezing (32F) last night, so some snow melted overnight. You can almost see the road in front of our house now.

Of course, if Mom had entered the When When Contest every year, she would have lost, so that doesn't mean anything. And we are not in the same place as we were last year, so the dates might be different. We'll see.

Mom put some seeds in this dirt. She's getting ready for her garden. The stuff in this dirt is mostly for herbs she will keep in pots near the window, but there is some dinosaur kale that will go in the real dirt outside. You know, when the snow melts, and the ground thaws.

As for me, I'll be watching.

Tuxie Tuesday

It got warm yesterday, over 40F, and the snow is starting to melt, which pleases Mom very much. It's still not gone though, which is no surprise to anybody around here.

We want the snow to melt, but we want it to do so s-l-o-w-l-y because if it melts too fast there will be flooding (because the ground is still frozen) and that would be really bad.

Mom really happy is that the sun is still out when she gets home.

Lookit the picture she took of me last night.

P.S. Dear Sally, The contest rules stated you had to post your entry to the When When Contest in the comments of the March 1 post. Your comment was in Friday's post, therefore you are ineligible to enter the contest.  However I can change the rules, so I will ask Mom to enter your guess.

Millie Monday

Due to the change to Daylight Savings Time, it won't get light enough for Mom to take a photo until later. It was warm yesterday, and the snow started to melt. Mom was very happy about it, but there's still a lot of snow left.

I must have been very good, because Mom bought me a special toy.
It looks like an ordinary stupid ball, but not quite. This ball is made from 'NIP! It smells good, and I can push it around, and lick it, and rub up against it,

generally have a good time playing with it.

As you can see, Mom has added the When When Watchers list on the sidebar. Please check that your name is there along with the correct date.

Super Sunday

There are a couple of reasons I think this is a SUPER day. For one thing...

The temperature is above freezing! The best part, however...

I got some real nice live dead BEEF!!!

Oh my Bast, today is a good day!
