Freaky Friday

Last night Mom and I had our dinners and then Mom did the dishes. When she looked out the window, she thought it was foggy, but when she got a better look...

It was snowing.

Twenty minutes later, it was over.

Mom says it was a "snow squall."

I guess a snow squall is a lot better than a blizzard.

Thursday Two-fer

It is furry cold outside today. Mom says it won't get above freezing for about a week.

This is what it looks like outside. Everything is frozen.

Tattle-Tail Tuesday

Mom has a pot of Rosemary and Thyme sitting on the heater in her bedroom.  This morning she caught me as I was checking them out.

Oopsie.

Millie Monday

Here's where I've been hiding out the last few days.

Under the quilt covering Mom's wing chair.

 See?

Sunny Saturday

This looks great! Mom and I both love the sunny day, the blue sky and the warm temperatures. I hope the snow melts FAST. Well, actually, I am more interested in the ICE melting from the driveway and the parking lot out back.

Mom fell again today. She took one step out the door and slipped and fell on the black ice. She was not a happy camper. She did not think the ground was covered with ice. Mom got up, came back inside and got some of the ice-melt pellets and spread it out.  Then she went out food hunting, and now she is back home. She says her butt hurts, and she's going to do some sewing. She has some ideas for a wedding quilt, but she hasn't shared them with me.

I am napping.

Finally Friday

Mom is really happy it is Friday because it has been a rough week with all the snow.  Lookit! It's been RAINING all night. Remember yesterday I said that sun melts snow, but rain melts it faster?  Well I'm not just whistling Dixie.

This snow is gonna melt for sure, we just don't know WHEN. That's where YOU and your furry furriends come in. YOU hafta enter my When When Contest and GUESS. It's easy. You just pick a day and tell me in the comments of THIS post. Only a coupla cats picked a date in March, and the snow often does melt before the end of March, so there are lots of good guessing days left.  It's supposed to rain for a couple of days, and we're going to have some sun tomorrow, so that will help.

Mom wants it GONE and SOON, but nothing she can do can make it go faster, so we might as well have some fun watching it GO.  The deadline for entering is midnight tonight, and we need a lot more guesses to make this a really fun contest.

This is the 6th (I think) year of the When When Contest. Let's make it the best ever!

Now I am going back to the top of my kitty condo and take a nap.

When When Contest Wednesday!!!

We got twice as much snow as the weatherguys thought we would. We now have 10" (25 cm) above our average winter snowfall. What does that mean? It means we have had as much snow as Mom is tall.

It's pretty, no doubt, but everybody here in New Hampster says they are tired of it, and want it to go away.  Mom says it WILL go away, we just don't know WHEN.

The big question is.... "When will the snow MELT?" That's what I want to know.

When will it be ALL GONE?

Would you like to guess? I am having a contest. The cat, woofie or bun who guesses the date when there is NO MORE SNOW when Mom looks out this window will get a prize. The prize will be treats, and bragging rights! (Occasionally evil little chocolates have been known to appear in prize packages, but Mom is making no promises.)

Every morning Mom will get up and take a picture of this same view and post it on my blog. On the day she wakes up and THERE IS NO SNOW ANYWHERE IN THE PICTURE will be THE DAY. If you guess the EXACT day, you will get a prize. If NOBODY guesses the EXACT DAY, the cat who guessed the day CLOSEST TO the day, but not AFTER the day, will get the prize.

Here are the rules:
1. Each cat, woofie or bun gets ONE GUESS EACH. (Our friend Megan from Sydney Australia can enter even if she isn't a cat, but she's the only hooman who is eligible.)
2. Guesses must be in the comments of THIS POST.
3. Deadline is Midnight Friday February 21, 2014. (So when it isn't Friday anywhere in the world, the voting will be over.)
4. You have to have a blog, or leave some way for us to get in touch with you, so we have to know who you are. If you have a blog, you're good to go.
5. You can enter no matter where you live. Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada... all are welcome to enter.
6. It's my blog, so if I wanna change the rules, I can.

Now for some useful information.
1. The houses across the street face East. So the snow in their front yards will melt first. Duh.
2. Sun melts the snow.
3. Rain melts it faster.
4. The average high temperature for March in New Hampster is 44F
5. The average low temperature for March in New Hampster is 18F
6. Winter isn't over, either. We have had big snowstorms at the end of February, and in March. It snows in April, too. So, guess accordingly.
7. *****The contest ends when there is NO SNOW on the ground in the picture. If it snows the next day, oh well, that's New England weather for you!*****
8. When the contest is closed, Mom will post a big list of all the entries and dates in my sidebar, so everybody will know who guessed what date. It is your responsibility to check that your name is there, and that your guess is correct. It's usually a big list, and adding the names gets complicated, so if your name is missing, let me know right away.

So put on your thinking caps, leave a guesstimate, spread the news, tell your furriends, and check back every day to see if you are the winner!

Good luck!

More Damn Snow!!!

LOOKIT!!!  MORE DAMN SNOW!

Mom got sent home from her day hunting gig after lunch, and she said it was terrible driving. She said it was almost "whiteout" conditions. She took this picture about 2:15 PM today, our time. We are supposed to get MORE of the stuff during the night.

Where am I, you ask?

Napping under a quilt.

I'm no dummy.

Millie Monday

I thought you would all like to see this selfie of Mom giving me scritches while we watched TV. I like being with my Mom.

Very Good Sunday

As you can see, I am being very good. I have not eaten any of Mom's roses.

I prefer BEEF, CHICK-HEN and 'Nip.

Snowy Saturday

This is what it looks like outside this morning. As you can see we have a lot of snow. Guess what? We are supposed to get MORE snow later today.

Lookit the beautiful pink roses and lilies Mr Karate and Rubylocks sent Mom for Valentine's Day. Mom was sqee-ing something wicked when they were brought to her at her day-hunting gig.

I have sniffed them thoroughly, but they are not as good as 'Nip.

I shall spend the day napping on my new favorite napping spot. A great big soft puffy fleece pillow.

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is what it looked like outside before it got dark last night. Lots of snow, and we were supposed to get more overnight. We'll know more when the sun comes up.

Yes, Megan, there will be a When When Contest this year.  Look for more about it next week.

Happy Valentine's Day everybuddy!  Mom got me a nice bag of my favorite 'Nip and some Tem-ta-shuns treats.

Oh No! More Damn Snow..

Yuk! More snow. We might get less, and we might get some freezing rain. I am SO glad I have lots of warm, dry places to nap.

Mo Snow

We got about two inches of snow Sunday night. That's about 5 cm for my Aussie friends.  We are expecting more snow on Thursday. Mom's not thrilled, but there's not much she can do about it.

You just gotta do what you gotta do to get through it.

Hey Mom, where are you going?

Easy Like Sunday

Mom watched athletes at the Olympics perform gravity-defying feats on the TV while she cooked this morning (chocolate cake, keen-wa salad, hoo-moos, and other stupid stuff).

I, on the other paw, found something much more rewarding to do.  Olympics, shmolympics!

Caturday

This is me getting scritches while Mom and I watched the Olympics.  Mom has been making arrangements for our trip to California later this year. She is getting excited. She needs to buy a special outfit. Lucky for me I don't have to worry about that.

Mom's got all her errands done, laundry, dishes, groceries, cooking the books, all that kind of stuff. It's cold here, but the sun is out so it is a nice day.

Smootchies!

Finally Friday

I really don't like it when I get a bright light shone in my face as I am trying to nap, but what can I say? I'm nice and warm and have been getting lots of scritches from Mom as she has been recovering from pushing the snow around and "cleaning."

She's been moving stuff around in all the bookcases and cleaning out all the drawers. She sent some green papers to a place called "The Container Store" for more stuff, so I know she isn't done yet.

Mom has filled eight bags of shredded paper, and brought four bins of stuff to Goodwill. Did I tell you she had to buy a new shredder because she killed her old one? It was 10 years old, so she didn't mind too much. The new one is very quiet and a lot easier to use. I like that.

While she waits for the new stuff to get here, we have been reading a series of books about Joe Grey, a cat detective, and we have been enjoying them very much. You can find out about them here. All are available at Amazon in paperback and for the Kindle.

Mom and I are also looking forward to watching a lot of the Olympics on TV.

This is what it looks like outside this morning. As you can see the idjits  upstairs neighbors waited till after Mom left for day hunting yesterday to snowblow the driveway. (If you can believe it, they left all the snow around where her metal masheen lives. Talk about petty.)

Too Much Thursday

How much snow did we get yesterday?

Too damn much. Mon thinks we got a foot or so.

Mom cleaned the bookcases in three rooms and emptied out practically every drawer in the house. She found pens, pencils and highlighters in every single room. Now they are in one place.

Mom was a raving maniac, and I stayed out of the way and napped.

Will There Be When?

At the beginning of February, all thoughts turn to When.

Really.

They do.

Everycat starts asking if there will be a When When Contest this year.**

There really isn't any way to tell. We'll have a When When Contest if there's enough snow on the first of March to make a contest successful. That's almost a month away.

This is what it looked like when Mom and I got up yesterday. Not a whole lot of snow. That's going to change today.

We're supposed to have between 8 and 14 inches of snow today. That's 20 to 35 cm.  The weather guys say when the storm is biggest we will get almost two inches (almost 5 cm) of snow per hour. That's a lot.

Mom has already told her day-hunting boss that she'll be staying home, so we will get a few pictures to update this post during the day.

Paws crossed!

Update: 7:30 AM. The snow has started to fall.

Update: this is about 10:30 AM

Update: This was taken at lunchtime, about 12:30 this afternoon.
Mom went outside and cleaned off about six inches of snow off the metal masheen. The plow guys haven't come by yet.

** What? You've never heard of the world-famous When When Contest? All you have to do to win is guess when all the snow will be gone when Mom and I look out this window in the morning.  It's not as easy as it looks.

An Interruption...

Mom didn't do much when she got home from day-hunting yesterday. She made dinner for both of us, washed the dishes and then we sat down together to watch Episode 3 of Season 3 of SHERLOCK.

Wow. We hope we don't have to wait another two years for Season Four. (And yes, Mom already has pre-ordered it on DVD so she can watch it again.

Heck, even I like Sherlock!

(all this is a roundabout way of saying that after Mom's relentless weekend of activity cleaning and rearranging the office she was too tired to do anything else...)

Millie Monday

Mom.

You moved my foods.

You rearranged everything. You shredded eight bags of papers. You even bought a spidery Darth-Vader chair.

Now could you please stop so I can get some rest?

Shredded Sunday

Mom went through all the papers that were on her desk yesterday. She sorted and shredded. Can you believe I missed this? Can you imagine the FUN I would have had?

Sorting and Shredding Stuff Saturday

Mom decided to move the bureau to the other side of the room.  She emptied a lot of stuff out of the drawers. I just HAD to check everything out.

This is the mess that is her desk.  As you can see, she has a LOT of cleaning to do. Mom has already filled FOUR grocery bags with shredded paper, and she isn't finished.

Lookit that same wall now. My foods have moved, and I am not exactly happy about it. Lookit in the corner... Mom is trying to trick me to get into that cage. She put a big pile of 'Nip in there to tempt me.  I'm not stupid. I didn't go near it until she left the house to go food hunting. She isn't the only smarty-pants in this house.

Here's the desk in its new home. Don't let the clean surface fool you. Mom still has LOTS of sorting and shredding to do.

Me? I'm gonna find a quiet place to nap.
