First Day of Vacation

Mom is on vacation. You all know how much she loves to watch the Tennis in New York, and takes vacation time so she can stay home and watch the tennis on TV.  The tennis starts today, but the vacation started on Saturday. So what did Mom do on her first day of vacation (aside from buying new sneakers?)

She went to Oo-ick's for a lobstah roll.

Mom laughs when the fancy cooking shows try to "gussy up" a lobster roll. Mom says a lobster roll should have these, and only these ingredients: lobster, mayo (not much!), salt and pepper and some chopped celery. This should be served on a roll that has been lightly grilled with butter.  The lobster roll is pretty terrific by itself if the lobster is very fresh and perfectly cooked, but even better if you are sitting at a table overlooking the water on a sparkling blue day.

Mom says steamed clams, fried onion rings, french fries and fresh coleslaw don't hurt either.

Mom says you can't be that close to the ocean and not dunk your toesies in it, so that's what she did next.

The ocean water is COLD! Mom says in the summer it is about 58F (14.4C), and she calls it "invigorating." (What-ever. It's WATER, and water is WET, so I am NOT interested. Come to think of it, I don't like fish either.)

A nice drive along the coast is always in order. Mom says the smell of the ocean is just wonderful. The drive should end with ice cream, and this one did too.

Mom stopped at The Beach Plum and had a hard time choosing from the 78 flavors of ice cream. Finally she selected Coffee Almond Caramel. Then she sat on the seawall as the sun set behind her, watching the waves crash gently on the beach.

Mom says very soon she will be doing the same thing, eating ice cream on a beach at sunset, but the sunset will be in front of her.  I do not understand how that can happen. I know she can make magic but I am not quite sure she has a magic wand big enough to make the sun change course.

Then again, she's Mom, and there's no telling what will happen.

I've never known a French fry to hurt me either, Millie. Indeed, I go so far as to say that French fries as a species are quiet, passive folk that never bite. I understand that you don't like fish (either do I much), but what about ice cream? Did your mom bring you home some of that stuff to try?

You might not like fish but I bet you'd like a few licks of ice cream given the chance. The fur babes I've had of the felion and canine variety all liked a wee teaspoon on ice cream from time to time. Shhh don't tell the animal food police. :o)
Have a great day.
Always, Queenie
