What Were They Thinking?

I don't get it.  They rejected two of Mom's best quilts that she submitted to a show called "What's My Line?" I mean, are they blind? Mom is seriously awesome. She's the best quiltmaker I have ever seen. Her work is outstanding, her use of color is second-to-none and her fabric choices are impeccable. She's famous, and she has quilts all over the world.

I mean, I know I'm hardly objective, but STILL! Who are these jurors anyway? No cats I know, I'll bet.

Sigh.  At least -I- know my Mom is sixteen kinds of terrific.

Thursday Things

It's so important to exercise regularly. I like to get my workout in before the hots get too hot. It is supposed to hit 90F (32.2C) today.

Mom had a tough time getting to sleep last night, and then a big BANG woke her up. It was the sound of a teenage sticky people slapping a stop sign, so Mom expected to hear laughing afterwards, but she didn't hear anything. She got up and looked out the window, but she didn't see anybody. It was foggy and she couldn't see much anyway. She got back into bed and tried to get back to sleep, but then she heard a "Beep-Beep-Beep" and could see some flashing lights, so she got up to look again.

On the next block over, a metal masheen had driven into another metal masheen that was parked on the side of the street.  Both cars were banged up, and were being towed away. So you know Mom, she had to watch for a while.

Weather Wednesday

The hots are coming. We're supposed to have a heat wave, which is 3 or more days in a row with the temperature 90F (32.2C)  or higher. I'm getting ready.

Heh.

Mom says we are also supposed to have some strong crack-and-boom storms today. I'll be under the bed when they come through.

Tuxie Tuesday

Mom didn't take it easy yesterday even though she didn't have to go day-hunting. Instead she planted her yukky green junk, including some big boys and early girls (don't ask me, I don't know.) She cleaned the human litterbox room and did the dishes and some cooking. She had a roast beast sandwich for lunch. I am proud to say I smelled it from the other room and came running. Mom was very generous. I had almost a WHOLE slice! It was delicious.

Of course the day was not without some bad stuff. Mom dragged the rug-sucking monster around and if you can believe it, she actually used it on my kitty condo!!!

She made amends later though. I sat next to her while she watched the tennis in Paris. I got scritches the whole time. It was pawsome.

Washday

Today is the day we commemorate all the fine folks who have given their lives for our country. Happy Memorial Day.

Mom spent most of yesterday sewing and watching tennis in Paris. Today she has to clean the house and work in the garden. She will plant my 'Nip today also.

I am also busy.

Green Day

You all get to see this view when it's covered in snow. I thought you'd like to see it when it's green. It looks a little bit dreary, because the sun isn't out, but you get the idea.

Sloppy Saturday

I'm not the one that's sloppy. I'm clean and so is this basket full of towels.  What's sloppy is the weather outside. It's been raining most of the day, and it's grey and much cooler than usual for May. (It's about 47F or 8.3C).

Mom went out in the rain and bought big bags of dirt and pots for her yukky green herbs and some tomato plants.

And my Nip.

I've spent the day napping.

Finally Friday

I have found another comfy napping spot.

and look...

There will be 'Nip!

I love my Mom.

PS, Dear Angel & Kirby, Mom gets her plants from Burpee. Mom orders what she wants and when it is time to plant them, Mr Burpee gives them to the man in the bloo shorts and he brings them here. Mom tried growing her basil plants from seeds, but there isn't a window that gets enough good light so the plants came out thin and spindly. Mom could buy plants from the big box stores but they don't have the specific varieties she likes (San Remo Basil, for example). Mom says buying the plants from Mr Burpee (she actually places her order just after Christymas) costs the same as the big box stores. Mom says the best part is the plants get here when it is the right time to plant them. My Mom is a smart cookie.

Thursday Thought

It's that time of year again. It's time to plant the garden. These are the Basil and Rosemary plants the man in the bloo shorts brought yesterday.  There are also Oregano, Thyme, Sage and Marjoram.

I do not see any 'Nip.

That shall have to be corrected.

Terrible Tuesday

Eeeeek!  It's not what it looks like.  I was stretching and yawning, and Mom took a picture.  Those little flashy boxes with stop-action can be really nasty for a girl's reputation.

MOM!!!

I think something is going to have to die a toothy death.

Easy Like Sunday Morning?

Look, I know how to take it easy.
Mom, not so much.
All this stuff is in the bottom shelf of the kitchen cupboard.
See now nicely it fits? When the stuff is in the bins, it's easier for Mom to get at it. So that shelf is finished.

Did Mom stop there?
Nope. She washed four windows.
She planted pansies and geraniums, waving petunias,
lobelia and verbenas.

She mowed the lawn, went food hunting, did the washing machine shuffle, washed all the dishes, and paid all the mister bills. The house is neat, although the rug sucking monster hasn't made an appearance yet.

However, Mom HAS been watching the tennis in Rome (right now Nadal and Federer are battling), and she has been doing some sewing in her studio.

It's still a good day for both Mom and me.

Freaky Friday

Thank goodness it's Friday.

Mom's been at it again.  She did that last shelf in the cabinet. Here it is before.
And here is is after
It doesn't look like she did anything, but she did. She emptied everything out, washed the shelf and those lazy susan thingies. Then she checked all the expiration dates and threw out a lot of stuff. The spices on the double decker lazy susan (who is this Susan anyway, and why is she in my kitchen?) are all now in A-B-C order, and now she doesn't have to take stuff out of there to find stuff, so she's happy. She says she can't wait to get to the cabinets on the other side of the kitchen.

I think I need a nap. I know she needs one.

Truthful Thursday

Do you know what happened last night? Mim-may and Pip-pay came over to eat some real live dead fish that one of Mom's friends caught out of a real live lake.  They brought Missy-the-woofie, who made a beeline to my stinky goodness and ate it all!

Now, I had finished my dinner, and I had left a little bit for a snack, but still! How rude!

Mom refilled my bowl, of course.

After they all left, Mom went into the office of almost despair, and shuffled pieces of paper all over her desk for almost two hours!!!

Seriously! She put the papers in different piles, then sorted them, and made little squiggles on something she calls a statement. Then she made a lot of clicks on the computer, and when she was finished, she put all the papers in the shredder.

She says the desk is a lot cleaner, but it looks just as messy to me as it did the other day. But she says she is very happy about it. Dunno why.

Tuxie Tuesday

Mom did another one of her twenty-minute cleaning jags last night, and cleaned out a shelf in one of the kitchen cabinets. Can you guess which one it is?

I dunno. I wasn't watching. It sure isn't the bottom shelf though!

(And for those of you who are wondering, yes, Mom has one of pretty much everything.)

Millie Monday

Mom loves bowls. Dunno why. Anyway, she decided to take herself shopping the other day and bought these bright little bowls for me. Aren't they cute? Mom says there were some in orange and bright green and blue, but she liked these purple and red ones best.

I don't care what color my bowls are as long as they are filled with stinky goodness at mealtimes.

Happy Mother's Day!

Mom and I don't pose together very often, but this is a nice picture of the two of us.

Moms are very special. Mine is especially so. I have lived here now almost seven years, and Mom loves me very much even though I don't let her hold me, sit in her lap or sleep next to her at night. She understands I need my "space." At the same time she knows me pretty well. She knew I would want a nice warm place to nap, so she bought me a heated cat cup. She thought I might light to climb, so she bought me a kitty condo. She keeps me in 'Nip and I get all the stinky goodness I want.

It's Mother's Day. Call your mother. Tell her how much you love her and how special she is. Especially if you only have two feet.

Snoozy Saturday

So what are you going to be doing today?

Friday, May 10, 2013

Formerly Feral Friday

It's supposed to be warm today. Mom has a couple of windows open for me, and she pulled the curtains apart so I can watch the antics of the folks next door.

Mom is at it again, this time she cleaned out the kitchen cupboards.  See this stuff? Mom says it's all past the experate, exrate, operation... oh whatever. Mom says it's too old, so it has to go.  Mr Karate used to say that Mom's kitchen was the "kitchen of endless possibilities." Mom says the possibilities can still be endless with less stuff.

She's even been clearing out the cookbook bookcase!!  You should see the stack of cookbooks she has put aside to give away.

Thursday Things

First, here I am sitting next to Mom this morning as she watches the tennis in Madrid and works on my blog.
Here is what Mom did last night when she got back from day-hunting.

It doesn't look like much, but the desk was covered with papers and other junk. There was so much stuff that Mom couldn't work here. Now it has been sorted. Lots of papers made it into the "to shred" bin, and lots went in the trash. Mom still has a lot of work to do, but now she has room to do it.

She's also started scribbling on her precious pages again. (She calls it "editing.") I have been napping nearby when she does that, so it's good.

Tuxie Tuesday

I suppose it was a bit foolish to play with the things on the bookshelf while Mom was in the room, but sometimes a cat has to do what a cat has to do...

Millie Monday

... I love getting scritches from Mom.

And yes, I am on her lap.

Without a quilt.

Kitty condo's are great, but hey, laps are really good too.

Update... Dunno how it happened, but today is NOT my birthday. Thank you for all the birthday wishes, but my birthday is April 5.

Finally Friday

Mom is at it again. Check this out.
This is the super duper freezy box. Mom cleaned it out last night. She threw away lots of old popsicles (too much sugar) and ice cream. She's not a big ice cream fan. Mr Karate LOVES ice cream, but he lives so far away now that Mom doesn't think it's worth keeping on hand. Mom also tossed a lot of bags of things she says are "mixed frozen veggies." She never cooks with them, so they are gone. And she tossed some old frozen hamburgers and "mystery meat." She kept the frozen peas, corn and spinach. There is an entire bin full of nuts and another full of coconut and different kinds of seeds. There's a bin for meat, one for real live dead shrimps and one full of yukky green basil pesto. She also keeps some granola, pizza dough and homemade stock in this box.  Now Mom is happy.  Go figure. I don't get it either.

This is what I like doing.
Watching what goes on outside.

Have a happy Friday everybuddy.

Toesies

OK I will confess. Mom has been scribbling on her pages again, and I haven't been posing so this picture is from a couple of weeks ago.

Wordy Wednesday

Look! I am the Queen of Hearts!

and I am the Queen of Clubs, and the Ace of Spades,

I am EVERY card in the deck!

Pretty cool, huh?

Mom got them here.
