Mom's Creative Monday

There is -still- snow on the ground, so Tavi, Jake, Kellie and Huggy are all out of the When When Contest.
Mom finally got her act together worked on Gizzy quilts this weekend. She keeps forgetting that making these quilts makes her happy, and rubbing the white cloth all over everything doesn't. Here I am doing the final QA check on one that is going to a young lady meezer kitty with blue eyes.

This green Gizzy is flying out to a Ginger kitty too. Mom put the Q. T. on this one because the kitty is sick.Yesterday Mom and Auntie and PlusOne went to the Currier Museum of Art for its big opening celebration after an extensive expansion. You can see more pictures here, but Mom liked this view of the Silver Gallery, which is hung with paintings in the old-fashioned Salon style. You can click the pictures to biggify.

Oh and, PlusOne took a picture of Roxy you guys just have to go see! I'm not quite sure how I feel about it.

Easy Like Sunday Morning

I see lots and lots of snow on the ground, and that means Sammy is out of the running in the When When contest..I have found a new spot I like very much. Mom doesn't look pleased. Oh well.

I am taking it easy today. She isn't.

What else is new?

Lights Out Saturday

Skeeter, and Angus, we got MORE snow, so you two won't be the winners of the When When contest. This is what it looked like yesterday morning:
We were supposed to get an inch of the stuff. instead, we got six. This is now the second snowiest winter since they started keeping records in New Hampster. We have had 115.2" of snow, which is WAY TOO MUCH!

Check out Google today. They have gone dark. We have decided to join them in Earth Hour.

I just found out about this event where millions of people around the world are joining together to make a statement about climate change by turning their lights off for an hour. It's called Earth Hour and I just signed-up to participate - I thought it might be something you'd want to look into. Earth Hour is on March 29 from 8 - 9 p.m. local time, and it looks like it's going to be really big. So far 25 cities around the world are taking part, including Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco in the U.S.

Sign up for Earth Hour by visiting www.earthhour.org/sign-up and join the movement with me.

Fundamental Friday

I can see snow outside, so Junior, you didn't win the When When contest.

I have recently discovered "The Cat's Bill of Rights." I know you'll want to see it, so here it is:

I am the cat, and I have certain inalienable rights:
  • I have the right to walk over your face anytime I wish, day or night.
  • I have the right to observe and comment on any and all bathroom behavior. Further, I have the right to be highly offended by any closed door.
  • I have the right to smell your shoes to determine if you have been fraternizing or cavorting or frolicking with any highly questionable animals.
  • I have the right to assist in any food preparation, cooking, cleaning or eating event that may occur in the home.
  • I have the right to wake you at three in the morning if I find my food dish not to my satisfaction.
  • I have the right to tip over any water container I deem unsuitable for consumption.
  • I have the right to curse at squirrels and birds that may dare to pass my windows.
  • I have the right to inspect any grocery items that come into the home. Further, I have the right to inhabit any paper bag or cardboard box that you bring home for as long as I wish.
  • I have the right to nap at any time and place I darn well please, without the distraction of being called or moved just because you want to sit down, wash your hands or use your computer keyboard.
  • I have the right to sleep on top of any appliance that is warm.
  • I have the right to assist in any changing of bed linens and to chase the phantom creatures that hide beneath the sheets.
  • I have the right to look aloof when scolded for mistaking your toes for one of those pesky phantom creatures that hide beneath the sheets.
  • I have the right to kill paper-towel rolls that otherwise might sneak up on you at night.
  • I have the right to your complete attention anytime you sit down to read or work.
  • And finally, I have the right to be loved petted, pampered and entertained, for, as you know, the best things in life ... Purr.
  • And should you err in your ways, I will graciously forgive. After all, you are only human, but I love you anyway.

Thursday Thirteen Movie Quotes Meme

There may not be snow where Fat Eric lives, but there is still snow HERE, and that doesn't count. Fat Eric, you're out of the When When contest!
I got this from Roxy last week.

1. Pick 13 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess in the comments.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put in who guessed it and the movie.
5. No Googling or IMDb-ing. That’s cheating and that’s no fun.

Mom says some of these -should- be pretty easy. And DKM, please leave some for other people to guess!

Here they are:

1. You'd be surprised about what you can get, if you ask for it the right way. - Out of Sight - by Diva Kitty Mom

2. American millionaires must be all quite mad. Perhaps it's something they put in the ink when they print the money. ~ How to Steal a Million ~

3. Maybe it's something else. Maybe you can't even describe it. Maybe you only know it when it's gone. Maybe it's like there's a whole piece of you that's missing, too. - Pleasantville - by Tybalt (after a hint)

4. You mean, you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword, and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people? - The Princess Bride - by The Meezers

5. I don't know. It's a mystery. - Shakespeare in Love - by Fat Eric

6. Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for? - The Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King - by Ghost

7. I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you. - The Last of the Mohicans - by Roxy

8. It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage. - Raiders of the Lost Ark - by Parker

9. All I did was kiss a girl! - Silverado - by Catherine on Eastlake

10. I always pass on good advice. It is the only sensible thing to do with it. - An Ideal Husband - by Diva Kitty Mom

11. Try not to kill my dogs. - Emma (1996) - by Roxy

12. People don't know how to love. They bite rather than kiss. They slap rather than stroke. Maybe it's because they recognize how easy it is for love to go bad, to become suddenly impossible... unworkable, an exercise of futility. So they avoid it and seek solace in angst, and fear, and aggression, which are always there and readily available. ~ The Upside of Anger ~

13. I can't ask him what he's doing. I'm supposed to tell him what he's doing. I ask him what he's doing and I'm gonna look like an idiot. - The Terminal - by Diva Kitty Mom

Update at 9:00 PM
OK! Great Job Everybody! Time for some hints:

# 2 is from a movie made in the 60's with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole. It's one of Mom's favorites.

# 12 is from a recent movie with Kevin Costner. It didn't get a lot of "play" but Mom liked it a lot.

# 13 is from a Tom Hanks movie.

None of these actors said the quotes featured. Mom says, "Google at will!"

Update at 11:00 PM:
Mom says next time she won't choose quotes that are so obscure. Good thing. I think it's more fun when everybody recognizes the quotes. Thanks for playing!

I tag Diva Kitty Mom to do this next week, since she's a big movie buff.

Wowie Wednesday!

Ollie, I'm sorry, there is still snow, so you are out of the When When contest. In fact, it snowed a little last night...
Lookit! This package came yesterday from Parker in O-Hi-O! It was the prize for winning the contest to name the two lions that guard her front door.
Omigoodness, this box is FULL of fun stuff! A stuffed bunny to play with, a bouncy toy, some peeps, (peeps?) some catnip stuffed toys, a fleece blankie, some mice to bat around, some crinkly balls (I love those), some catnip (Rudy couldn't help himself and tried to open the bag), some stinky gooness, some crunchy treats, some pet milk and a cube! And of course, a nice letter.
I like this bouncy ball toy...
I think this cube is really neat...
Lookit all this terrific stuff! Wowie kazowie!Thank you Parker, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Millie Monday

Hunter, there is still snow on the ground. You're out of the When When contest. The snow is melting really fast, which makes Mom really happy.
Mom has been rubbing the white cloth all over the stuff in the picture box room. She cleaned out the drawers in the coffee table, tossed out some books that had been piled on the table near her chair, and got rid of some other stuff. She even went to the Big Orange store and bought some new window sticks for each of the two windows. She washed the curtains too.She changed the sheets on the bed and did all the laundry, but not before I napped in some warm stuff right out of the dryer! Next she has to do the table room and the computer room. She's going to wait until the weekend to work in those rooms though, because she's got some Gizzy quilts to finish.

But the house is looking pretty nice. The floors are slippery, and there is plenty of clean counter space in the kitchen for me to run around on, which is really cool.

Happy Easter Sunday

Happy Easter Everybody!

Diamond Emerald Eyes, and Josie, there is still snow on the ground, so neither of you will win the When When Contest.
Here is what Mom made for the Family Dinner on Saturday night: Mr Karate's girlfriend took one look at it and said, "It's a Carrot Cake!" She was right! It was a Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. Mom will post the recipe on her cooking blog later. Mom says this cake has crushed pineapple in it.

We are feeling very blue for Smudge, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Saturday

There is still snow on the ground here, so Cocoa, you are out of the When When contest. Sorry!

Today is Mim-may and Pip-pay's 21st Wedding Anniversary. They are 2 of the Most Wonderful Beans on the Planet, according to Mom. She should know. She has pretty discriminating taste, so I believe her. You can go over to Mimmay's blog and leave some concatulations!

Mom made something special for dessert for the dinner. I can tell you it has sugar and eggs and vanilla. It doesn't have -any- chocolate. But I can't tell you what it is.
These aren't in it either.

Mom's goal for this weekend was to do her taxes. She has been working all morning on them and now she really happy. She says some guy named Sam is gonna send her some green papers.

So here's my question. Who is this guy named Sam, and why is he giving my Mom green papers?
I never met him. He never came here.

Finally Friday

As you can all see, the snow is still here, so Tybalt and Camie have lost the When When Contest. Sorry, guys!Tomorrow is Mimmay and Pippay's 21st wedding anniversary. The family is getting together for a family dinner. Mom has been asked to make the dessert, but Mimmay had one request. "Nothing with chocolate."

Mom went... "aaahhhh.... ummmm... uhhh..."

Mimmay said, "You'll come up with something great. You always do."

So Mom has been pulling cookbooks off the shelf, flipping through the pages, putting the book back, and trying another.

Oh, you think this is No Big Deal? Here is a picture of the bookcase in the table room:It is -only- for cookbooks. You can click the picture to biggify, and see what Mom's cookbook collection looks like.

And yes, Mom did find the perfect recipe for dessert. But I'm keeping that a secret! Ha ha ha!

(PS: Did you see over at Parker's that I won the contest for naming their new lions? Mom and I saw them and we immediately thought of those magicians who work with Lions, Sigfried & Roy, so that's what we suggested. I won the prize! I am so excited. There is a package on its way to me from Oh-Hi-O with presents!)

Thursday Thirteen - Clocks

Panda Bear, and China Cat, the snow is still here. You are out of the When When contest. To all the cats who commented yesterday... we are not expecting snow here for the next 5 days. Just rain and wind.
I've posted before about Mom's fascination with clocks. I decided to show you all the clocks she needs to get through the day. It's my Thursday Thirteen.

1. This is the squawk box. It makes noise in the morning and Mom hits it to make it stop. But it just starts up again a little bit later.
2. This is the clock she wears on her arm. She calls it a watch. Go figure!
3. This clock is on a radio she calls the Wave. It makes beautiful classical music all day while she is gone day hunting.
4. This clock is in the table room. It tells Mom when she has to leave to go day hunting. I do not know how, because it doesn't have any numbers. Yes, she made changes to this clock to make it look the way it does.

5. This clock is on the hot-as-hell box.6. This clock is on the microwave.
7. This very old clock is on the counter in the kitchen.8. This clock in the bathroom tells her she's been in the rainbox too long.9. This clock is in the sewing room. I like that note from Mr Karate telling her she is AWESOME!10. This clock is on a gizmo that keeps track of all kinds of stuff.
11. This clock is on her desk at work. Maybe Daisy knows this gekko?
12. This clock is in the servant room at Mom's day hunting gig. It usually tells her she's been there too long and it's time to go home!
13. This clock is in the Studio, and yes, Mom made it. It's my favorite.

Wacky White Wednesday

The weather is a bit wacky, as you can see. Mom says this is normal for March. She says March usually comes in like a lamb and goes out like a lion. But this year, March came in like a lion.
I think we need a lion tamer.

Here's more white wacky - all these white cloths!
These are the white cloths Mom's been rubbing everything with. She gets one dirty and tosses it in a pile, then she gives them to the washing monster. There is nothing wacky about -them- but Mom says anybody who thinks she's remotely interested in going to their house and doing the white-cloth-rub to their stuff definitely IS!

She's got the kitchen nice and clean and shiny, and she's been keeping it that way all week. We'll see how long it lasts. She took a break last night and did some sewing. Tonight she says she's gonna start in the picture box room.

Tuxie Tuesday

The weatherguys say it is supposed to be sunny and warm today, so the snow should melt. It has been melting, but it's hard to tell. Still, the snowbanks on our side of the street are shrinking. But since there is still snow on the ground, it means that Mungo and Teazer are both out of the running for the When When contest. Sorry. (Mungo, I forgot to mention you on March 12.)

Mom worked on the HAM Meezer Raffle Quilt tonight. Auntie brought over three blocks and Mom sewed them all up. The quilt is getting big. If Auntie finishes the blocks this week, Mom and Auntie will get together on Sunday to tie it, and then Mom will finish it and send it to Mary Kay in Padukah next week.
As you can see, I have been checking the quilt for love, kindness, warmth and all the other magical qualities a quilt should possess. So far, so good!

St Patrick's Day Monday

Sorry, Pearl. The snow is still here. You didn't win the When When contest. (At least the sun is out.)
It's St Patrick's Day, and a lot of cats are wearing green. I don't do that kind of thing, but let me see what I have in this (green) bag here...Ha ha! Green laser eyes!
Happy St Patrick's Day!

Easy Like Sunday Morning

Here's what it looks like outside this morning. Another icky March day. But Mom says it is getting warmer, and the days are longer, so that's good. Plus, this month is half over!

Back to more important matters (stuff about me!)
At least one of here knows how to take it easy on Sunday morning. (That would be me.) I just -love- my new Cat Hammick from 40 Paws. Mom set it up here under her work table in the sewing room. From here I can look at everything that's going on.

Mom has been rubbing that white cloth over everything in the kitchen and the bathroom. She did the sides of the coldbox, the top of the cold box (which gets really sticky and disgusting), and the front doors. She even took off most of the magnets. It looks naked! Then she did the same thing to the hot-as-hell box. The rug sucking monster has made several appearances.

Everywhere she goes she's got that silly iPod thing plugged into her ears. She says she's ripped almost all her CD's but I think she's lying. I haven't seen any pieces anywhere.

Today she should be sewing. She's got some Gizzy Quilts to work on. But who knows what she'll do. God forbid she'd take it easy.
