Thursday Thirteen #4

As all you cats in the blogosphere know, us cats have our terms for things people use. So the Lady and I decided to put together a list of the terms I use, and the corresponding term People use. Most cats know what we all mean, so some of the terms won't be new, but some might be. The Lady says that clever readers should be able to work them all out without this list.

1. Picture box ~ Television
2. Table room ~ Dining Room
3. Noisemaker ~ Telephone or Cell Phone
4. Hot-as-hell box ~ Oven
5. Coldbox ~ Refrigerator
6. Rain room ~ Shower
7. Rug Sucking Monster ~ Vacuum Cleaner
8. Mouth Hummer ~ Electric Toothbrush
9. Day Hunting ~ where the Lady goes during the day - to work
10. The guys named Pat~ the New England Patriots football team
11. New Hampster ~ New Hampshire, USA
12. Nukker ~ Microwave oven
13. A gizzy ~ Unit of measurement, about 18 inches

And the Lady, bless her, still can't work out what exactly a "poodin" is. She has figured out sorta what it is, but she can't figure out exactly what it is or where that term came from. She needs, as they say, enlightenment, and she doesn't think she's gonna get it in a yellow book. (What's a yellow book?)

Nice work Millie! Puddin' just refers to kitties... like a bean is a human (human being-human bean). I first heard these words over at Timothy Dickens' Blog. I believe somewhere in his archives he also has a cationary where maybe he explains it better. I don't know the origin. Maybe someone can give you more information.

Anyway, good Thursday Thirteen!

yep, a poodin (or puddin) is just anofurr name for a kitty. Grampa Norton was known for his 18 years as Snortin' Norton Puddin Pop. We also seed it ofurr at Timmy Dickens blog too.

Ha, ha, We love New Hampster.

We think Timothy coined it too, and it a variation of Poodie Tat. Like when that little bird in the cartoon says "I tink I taw a poodie tat."
We love it when you say hot-as-hell-box!!!!!! Thats a good one!!

Yep ... I'm in agreement, too. The "poodin'" is a variation utilized by that yellow bird with the big head ...

Great TT, Millie! We have a Dyson "rug sucking monster" that we can watch our fuzzy mice swirl around in. It's kinda fun until ... we lose focus.

our Lady sez THANK YOU! to those who answered the "poodin" thing. she figgered out that it ment kitty, but has been goin' nuts tryin' ta figger out why. "poodie-tat" makes sense. the kids had a movie called the Borrowers where Human Beings were called Human Beans, or just Beans, so at least she knew where that came frum. she giggles lots when you say "hot-as-hell box".

I am good at sitting on top of the big cold box. But mum laughs at the hot-as-hell box.

Well, I figured "poodin" meant kitty, but I could never figure out why. My problem could be partly because my family had a poodle when I was growing up. Poodin as short for "pootie tat" makes perfect sense, and of course I remember Tweety Bird.

Personally, my second favorite, for which I cannot take credit, is "Mouth Hummer."

My own #1 favorite is a Gizzy as a unit or measurement.

Oh, mom has been sayin gizzy as a unit of measure ever since she heard it. As in, Speedy, you're a gizzy to close to Zippy and are about to get whapped. Funny, we used to speak regular english back before cat blogs.

My mom couldn't figure out what "beans" meant for a long time - then one night she had an ah-ha!

Ohhh - there's sooo much to learn! WE learned a lot of Catonese words from the dudes at the Cat Blogosphere. Like:
Makin' biscuits = kneading w/ paws
Little blurpy thing = human baby
Dingleberries = crusty stuff that sticks to you bum

Gizzy gets dingleberries. Jasmine is always makin' biscuits when she sits on the Lady. We all love stinky goodness, and I run around all the time as if there were flames shooting out of my butt.

Great list! :) Thanks for providing us with this handy dictionary of words. :)
